“For Value-Driven Project and Portfolio Manage in the Pharmaceutical Industry.”
Thus far in the course, you have completed a case study overview and a project charter. In this milestone, you will develop a project scope statement using the [template](https://snhu-media.snhu.edu/files/course_repository/graduate/qso/qso680/qso680_project_scope_statement_template.docx) provided. A [data set](https://snhu-media.snhu.edu/files/course_repository/graduate/qso/qso680/qso680_final_project_case_study_data_set.xlsx) for this case study has also been provided for your benefit.
Your project scope statement should include the following **critical elements**:
    1.
    I. **Introduction**: A concise overview of the project.
II. **Purpose and Justification**: How does the project support business goals and objectives?
III. **Scope Description**: All known characteristics of the project’s product or service.
IV. **High-Level Requirements**: All known requirements of the project’s product or service.
    V. **Boundaries**: What should and should not be included in the project?
VI. **Strategy**: Strategy to be used by the project team to manage the project.
VII. **Acceptance Criteria**: Criteria that must be met for the project to be considered “complete.”
VIII. **Constraints:** Limitations due to time, budget, technology, or other resources.
IX. **Assumptions:** Assumptions under which all stakeholders are making decisions.
    X. **Cost Estimate:** Estimate of funding needed to successfully complete the project.
XI. **Cost/Benefit Analysis:** Analysis of organizational costs versus organizational benefits.
    Prompt II
Once you completed your scope statement, you will set up your project using MS Project software. As you do this, you will be creating a WBS. In your WBS, you will identify what tasks need to be developed and the relationship among the tasks. This WBS will be used in planning your project. There is no need to go any further than a Level 3 in creating your WBS.
As part of the MS Project assignment, include project milestones and create relationships with all tasks with a start-to-finish dependency; create a project start time and document any assumptions you make in the task note field. If you choose to use it, a [MS Project file](https://snhu-media.snhu.edu/files/course_repository/graduate/qso/qso680/qso680_ms_project_template.mpp) has been created for your benefit. You can start with this and modify it as necessary, or you can create your own project using the software.
As needed, use the Infobase tutorials provided in the module resources to help you set up your project using MS Project software.
Your MS Project file should be a WBS that includes the following **critical elements**:
    I. Project **milestones**
II. **Relationship of tasks** to one another
III. **Notes** in the task note field as necessary

    **Overview**

MBA programs around the country are starting to require their students to become more effective writers. This is in response to industry’s urging for grad schools to improve the writing skills of graduate students. Writing at the MBA level should be informative, colorful, and nuanced, and the writing should include simple words vs. complicated (especially if used out of context).

**Journal Article Review** of 900-1200 words, not including the title page or reference page. For each
**Journal Article Review**, you must discuss how the theoretical model or treatment described in the article compares to the information discussed in your textbook. No more than 20% of each
**Journal Article Review** may be quotations. You must cite and reference the original article, the course textbook, and one additional scholarly article.

    Each
**Journal Article Review** assignment must include these sections:

    · Title page

    · Article caption at top of first page of text (current APA style) to identify the article

    · Statement of the author's purpose (100 words)

    · Managerial implications of article findings (350 words/2–3 paragraphs)

    · Summary of the article and its context (100 words)

    · References (Current APA style)

Students must follow this format for their review.

    **## 598W1.docx**

    **Introduction**

This Course Project offers students exposure to the procurement cycle through a series of project deliverables. In this scenario, input (Project Charter PPM Selection and Magic Quadrant for Strategic Portfolio Management) is presented to you, along with tools and examples, and the student is expected to produce specific outputs. This Course Project will make the course content come alive through the application of the principles from the textbook(s), course materials, and discussions. Each week, you will have Course Project assignments that will be related to the Course Outcomes aligned to that particular week. These assignments will build to the final presentation of your completed project.

    **Guidelines**

This is an individual project. The topic of the project is preselected for you. The topic of the project is to select a PPM solution for the University of Prosperity. For the project, it is assumed that the student is the project manager leading the project and is an employee of the University of Prosperity. The Project Charter PPM Selection and the Magic Quadrant for Strategic Portfolio Management are provided as inputs. Additionally, tools and examples are provided to you. Finally, you are expected to produce weekly outputs as noted in the Course Project Deliverables section. Also, you will find a general background for what a PPM solution is.

    **What is a PPM solution?**

PPM stands for project and portfolio management solution, and it is an integrated offering to address project management processes, often in real-time and edited by software and technology. A PPM solution empowers executive decision making by providing reliable accounts of the information required to align and prioritize an organization’s projects. Also, by allowing portfolio managers to manage and forecast resource allocations across the organization’s complete collection of approved projects (current and future), it also serves project teams by ensuring that project demand is realistic and achievable based on the organization’s actual capacity for project work. Figure 1 presents the PPM solution ecosystem that includes organizational strategy, project managers, project workers, project product users, project requesters, and project decision makers.

Determine a business challenge this company faces that could be addressed through business analysis techniques, theories, and tools. Develop a general course of action using Chapter 1: Introduction of Your BABOK® Guide and lesson on PADIO on how you will go about making a decision and developing a solution to the problem you have identified. In an approximately 1000-word MS Word document, describe the company, the company’s history, the problem, the problem owner(s), the problem stakeholders, and your critical thinking and decision-making course of action for solving the problem. At a minimum, your course of action should move you through the five stages of decision-making and problem-solving: planning, analysis, designing and developing alternative solutions, implementation of the solution, and taking the solution operational (within the operational stage, address tasks of maintenance, training, and evaluation). Using Microsoft Excel, develop a Gantt schedule chart of the tasks you have outlined in your paper that will be necessary to move through in order to solve the company’s problem. Capture a screenshot of the task schedule and paste the image into the appendix of your paper (an appendix comes AFTER the reference page). Note: If you do not have the software installed on your computer, it is provided free from our KU Outlook 365 account.

    **Assignment Instructions:**

The minimum requirement is 500 words, exclusive of the schedule of tasks chart that you will create in Microsoft Excel. Your paper will also include a title page, reference page, and an appendix. Using APA formatting, include both in-text and corresponding full references. References should include a minimum of five sources used to support your opinions. One will be your BABOK® Guide , one will be the company, and one will be a scholarly source found in the KU online library. The other sources are at your research discretion. Submit your completed assignment to your Blackboard classroom as a Word document by Sunday midnight CT of Week 1.

    Steps 1-3

Monitoring competitors’ performance and strategies is a key aspect of an external audit. This exercise is designed to give you practice in evaluating the competitive position of organizations in a given industry and assimilating that information in a CPM.

Step 1. Get familiar with the free templates at the StrategyClub website
![open in new window](https://www.sweetstudy.com/questions/wk2mba599); you can click on CPM. Use the template to save you time in completing this exercise. Be mindful that the template does not itself access the internet to find key factors to include in a CPM. You need to do that and then enter that information into the template. The template is widely used by organizations in preparing a CPM.

Step 2. Turn back to the Cohesion Case in Chapter 1 and review the section on competitors. Also view online resources that compare McDonald’s with Burger King. Use the sources listed in Table 3-7.

**1A.CJ** When companies conduct business it is prudent to understand how profitable the product or service will be. Depending on the industry market, prices are set to reach a general demographic customer base. McDonalds and Burger King have been two major competitors in the fast-food industry for decades. According to an article in the marketing drive, Burger King and McDonald’s have engaged in what has been called a “Burger War” (Kelly, 2022). You could argue which fast food place has the best burgers or fries but understanding how relevant Burger King has stayed in this industry has been remarkable.

While being a formidable competitor to McDonald’s, Burger King does not have equal revenue or number of locations that McDonald’s has and is still considered the underdog. For example, Burger King has formed a few initiatives that have put them at the forefront of people’s minds and taste buds while taking advertising jabs at McDonalds. In 2019, Burger King began an initiative in honor of Mental Health Awareness month in May that created meals that represented various moods but did not offer a happy meal option because people are not happy all the time (Simpson, 2019). This was a jab at McDonald’s because they offered happy meals as an option.

The overall competitive position has McDonald’s in a strong position with a score of 3.42. This shows how dominant the advertising and marketing tactics used by McDonalds are, especially during peak seasons. Burger King’s low score is an indicator that the advertising and marketing revenue is not as abundant as the competition.

McDonalds and Burger King started within a year of each other, and brand recognition has played a big part in how well these fast-food places are doing. For example, everyone recognizes the Golden Arches and can see the spectacle from a far distance. McDonald’s has provided a visual which can spark emotion. I notice Burger King as I am approaching what is believed to be flame broiled food cooking.

Burger King has strengths in areas on product quality and unique selling techniques. For example, as previously mentioned the flame broiled smell. This could be more appealing to customers than a fried burger. BK prices their food in a competitive manner. McDonald’s has value menu; BK has a value menu but offers more options than McDonalds with true meal deal pricing.

There is a difference in the efficiency level of employees at McDonalds versus Burger King. For example, the level of customer service can be upgraded for Burger King as they have a low net promoter score. According to the Harvard Business Review, the net promote score (NPS) is the foundational business metric recommendation score which answers the question, how likely are you to recommend this fast-food restaurant and consumer reactions (Stahlkopf, 2019). Burger King may offer better value menu items and better quality burgers, the customer service needs to be reassessed, if customer retention is the objective. Burger King should reassess the brand presentation and become more aggressive in creating a brand which can appeal to the public, engage in a strategic global presence, and increase the reputation through product innovation.

    1B…
**Competitive Profile Matrix (CPM): McDonald’s vs. Burger King**

**Rationale for Key Success Factors and Weights**

Using the StrategyClub CPM template and I selected ten industry “critical success factors” listed in Table 37 of our textbook (David et al., 2023). I chose ten factors that show up again and again in quickservicerestaurant (QSR) studies: brand reputation, product quality, global expansion, advertising and promotions, technology and innovation, customer loyalty, menu variety, drivethru and delivery efficiency, financial position, and environmental/social responsibility.

To keep the math simple, the weights had to add up to 1.00. I put the heaviest weight (0.15 each) on financial position and on ESG reputation because analysts say investors and Gen Z customers care most about money strength and corporate values right now (Morningstar, 2025). I gave midlevel weights (0.10) to trafficdrivers like advertising and convenience factors, and smaller weights (0.07–0.08) to menu variety and similar “nicetohave” factors.

    **Ratings and Resulting Scores**

    **![](https://www.sweetstudy.com/questions/wk2disrep599)**

    *Rating scale: 4 = major strength, 3 = minor strength, 2 = minor weakness, 1 = major weakness.

**Key Data that Shaped my Ratings**

    ·
**Scale and market share -** McDonald’s ended 2024 with 43,477 restaurants worldwide, a 4 percent jump year over year (McDonald’s Corporation, 2025). Burger King had 19,732 locations, less than half of that (Restaurant Brands International [RBI], 2025). That’s why I scored McDonald’s a 4 and Burger King a 3 on global expansion.

    ·
**Financial muscle -** In 2024 McDonald’s posted US $25.92 billion in revenue and more than US $130 billion in systemwide sales (McDonald’s Corporation, 2025), so I gave it a 4 for financial position. RBI reported US $2.30 billion in Burger King–segment revenue and is still paying for its “Reclaim the Flame” remodel program (RBI, 2025), so Burger King earned a 3.

    ·
**Technology and loyalty -** McDonald’s is testing an AIpowered drivethru with Google Cloud and counts about 175 million active loyalty members (McDonald’s Corporation, 2025), which justified a 3 (strong, but still building). Burger King’s tech rollout is newer and smaller, so I rated it as 2.

    ·
**Sales momentum -** Restaurant Dive noted Burger King’s U.S. samestore sales cooled in 2024 after a hot 2023, while McDonald’s global comps kept rising (Pannell, 2025). That backed higher scores for McDonald’s in advertising, menu variety, and drivethru efficiency.

    ·
**ESG and public image -** McDonald’s long partnership with Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) and its public netzero promise earned a 3. Burger King has made progress with plantbased options and packaging, but it still trails its peers, so I gave it a 2 (RBI, 2025).

    **Analysis**

The CPM total scores McDonald’s at 3.77 vs. Burger King at 2.77, which indicates that McDonald’s holds a substantial competitive advantage in almost every critical success factor. The one area where McDonald’s is not a clear “4” is technology & innovation, suggesting continued investment in AI driven kitchen and ordering systems is vital to preserve its lead as digital competition intensifies.

Burger King’s gap of a full point shows why its “Reclaim the Flame” plan feels so urgent. The remodeling of stores, digital ordering, and sharpening its brand messaging will all need to happen if it wants to close in on McDonald’s, especially in reputation and operational execution.

    **Conclusions**

Overall, the CPM confirms what financial and consumer metrics already hint that McDonald’s dominant scale, stronger balance sheet, and deeper loyalty ecosystem give it a superior external position, while Burger King remains a credible but distant second mover in the global QSR burger segment.

**Finance AX 2012 Upgrade Project Charter/Business Case**

    Timothy Beard
    University of Maryland Global Campus

    ISAS
    [600 9040](tel:600%209040) Information Systems for Managers (2255)

    2 June 2025

The project is important because it solves a main business issue for the organization—how to keep its financial management up to date with the Tanzania sports league’s rapid transformation. Currently, the Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 system is functional, but it cannot accommodate Sports London and China’s future needs for flexibility and scalability. Moreover, it is difficult for the current system to bring together data from all these regions for quick decisions. The fact that payment processes aren’t visible gives an extra challenge to overseeing finances, as the company cannot monitor payment information or easily integrate with its clients. Besides, the tool lacks strong reporting options to help analyze sales actions and make sure business records are GAAP and international-standards-compliant. To solve these problems, the upgrade introduces a more powerful, automated financial system that will unify tasks and make operations more effective.

The project will create and deliver a web-based database system to replace the present AX 2009 platform with a newer AX 2012 version. Because the system is on the internet, Sports London and China teams, plus other involved groups, will enjoy easy communication. It is hoped that the database will be used by about 50 people involved in financial reporting, client payment tracking and sales analysis. On completion, the system will offer automatic workflows, options for integrated reporting and is designed to benefit both staff members and clients. The goal is to get a main financial system working in Sports London and China by July 31, 2012, with the main aim of upgrading the platform and making sure all key business systems and operations for users are operating smoothly. Even so, we won’t handle tasks like re-engineering businesses, updating current solutions, offering steady training or doing needle-moving activities. Future phases will deal with these if they are not urgent for the project’s success and costs keep down.

Improving financial management is the main business objective, so that the organization can operate more efficiently and achieve growth through the Finance AX 2012 Upgrade. Sports London and China must use AX 2012, because the upgrade is needed for the operations to share financial data. This will give leadership a unified picture of the company’s finances, enabling them to decide quickly. Enabling the Agent Portal is another aim, so various stakeholders can see a clear view of all client payment activities and know if a payment is complete in real time. The team further intends to integrate the system with a tool that runs on the intranet, supplying automated, officially compliant reports for use in both financial audits and deciding strategic plans. Also, the software will upgrade how sales actions are seen through better reporting functions, allowing the sales team to spot both trends and opportunities more clearly. The project further tries to back up GAAP and international financial standards so they are followed and no unnecessary regulatory penalties are applied.

Time, cost, access to workforce and tools are a few of the challenges that must be faced during this project. All work on the project must be done by the end of July 2012 which gives the team very little time to manage each stage. With less money to spend, the group works towards lowering the cost of work which makes it difficult to carry out significant business process restructuring. Staff is sometimes limited because the team is made up of functional, business and report groups, along with a steering committee, but some analysis tasks such as Microsoft AX solution architecture, may depend on extra skills. Safe or successful adoption of the update also depends on whether the organization’s servers are fit for the job or if the group needs to buy new ones. As a result, developers need to plan the work closely to maintain progress and ensure the development delivers results.

When trying to explain the solution to friends, I would say it is like changing out the existing software with more advanced financial software. Consider the current system like an old-fashioned phone that just handles talking and sending texts, but doesn’t do other tasks smoothly. Similar to a modern smartphone, AX 2012 allows the company to handle financial records globally, see live payment changes and run detailed reports at any time. Since it’s available online, the team can use the platform from London or China and manage money better, while always being compliant with financial rules. Basically, it simplifies the finance department’s tasks and supports the organization’s growth with current technology.

From a business perspective in terms of formality, the project involves Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 upgrade to AX 2012 to address demands of necessary financial management of China and Sports London operations. The project will deploy web-based financial database that comprises reporting, enhances visibility of clients' payments, and facilitates sophisticated analytics of sales. The project will be conducted under fundamental guiding principles, such as using a design that is minimalist in nature, applying only the required functionality, and having transparent decision-making processes. Some of the fundamental activities involve consulting with Microsoft for review of the solution architecture, establishing a baseline for the project plan, and designing the target infrastructure. The rollout will be done by 31st July 2012, so that a stable and scalable environment that addresses the company's immediate requirements is established while the foundation for future growth is set. The organization will be ready to attain operational excellence and secure the competitive edge in the sporting industry with this upgrade.

The Finance AX 2012 Upgrade will have a profound effect on business processes by streamlining financial processes and optimizing overall organizational performance. By integrating the finance data, Sports London and China will be able to have fewer manual activities that hold up reporting and decision-making. The visibility of client payment behavior will reduce errors and enhance client satisfaction since payment status can be tracked in real-time. The use of automated reporting software will be able to free up time from the finance department so that they can focus on more high-level activities rather than data entry. The ability of the system to provide insight into the activity of sales will also enable the sales department to find opportunities sooner, which would result in revenue boosts. Overall, the update will enable the organization to operate at full efficiency, comply with financial standards, and adapt to market needs, according to its own agenda of implementing long-term stability and expansion.

Technically speaking, according to feasibility purposes, the project will entail stress-testing the organization's infrastructure in an attempt to verify if new servers or equipment are needed at all. The current servers may not support the upgraded AX 2012 system, particularly with the additional loads of a web-based application and 50 users. If new hardware will have to be purchased, then additional budget will have to be allocated for procurement, which can be factored into the overall project cost. But technically it is possible to implement AX 2012 as it is an addition to the existing Microsoft Dynamics platform, and there are already personnel familiar with this technology working in the firm. Solution architecture analysis by Microsoft also will be undertaken by the project team to make the transition smooth. With adequate planning, technical needs of this upgrade can be met with minimal disruption of daily activities.

The resource availability of Finance AX 2012 Upgrade in terms of time, money, and people is its resource availability. The project duration from start until completion by July 31, 2012, will be six months of actual deployment and development. The project members are functional, business, and report development, i.e., around 10 people, with further guidance from a steering committee. These personnel will work the majority of their time on the project, and some of the activities, such as the Microsoft AX solution architect, will require external consultancy support. The project will attempt to keep costs as low as possible from a financial stand point, but these will likely be software licensing of AX 2012, potential hardware procurement, and consultancy. A budgetary estimate is $150,000, but this would be more if new servers are required. Overall, the project will have to be well managed in relation to resources so that it is completed on time and within budget and yet delivers a great solution.
