    **First Key insight**
Leadership in the nursing field is essential to nurse performance. This includes providing quality, compassionate care and ensuring the patient's safety. One key insight that I obtained through my research is that nursing leaders are that the most effective leadership styles that have been proven to be beneficial to nursing practice are the servant leadership approach, transformational and transactional approach, paternalistic leadership practices, and entrepreneurial leadership. Leaders play a crucial role in the healthcare field regarding influence on nursing performance. (Alsadaan et al, 2023)
    **Second Key Insight**
Nursing leadership styles are responsible for most nursing dynamics. For instance, job satisfaction, nurse retention rates, quality of care, and patient outcomes. The nurse’s educational background, personality, and work environment also influence their nursing leadership style. Each type of nurse leader role can be valuable when utilized in the right setting. (Cummings et al, 2021) An interesting fact about Leadership is that targeted educational interventions are the most effective way to develop leadership qualities in nurses. This is the opposite of what we are taught growing up. That Leaders are born, not made.
    **Personal Experience**
In my personal experience, I have experienced leaders with different leadership styles within my time as a nurse. With my first RN job, my nursing leader did not embody the necessary leadership styles to retain staff. Within four months, she had over 24 nurses resign due to her lack of leadership behaviors, which include: autonomy, competencies, relatedness, individual nursing characteristics, relationships and support, and leadership styles/practices. (Alsadaan et al, 2023) In contrast, my most recent nursing leadership was a great influence in my career. She integrated every category that held the most impact on her team. She showed empathy and relatedness.  She gave us autonomy and made us feel competent in our roles. She also supported us and developed a relationship with each of us. Her leadership style was unmatched, and her skills as a leader made for a very positive workplace with successful metrics, job satisfaction, and nurse retention rates. I truly wish she were still my nursing leader today. (Broome & Marshall, 2021)

    Data Science Applications and Processes

![A person standing in a hallway with a computer AI-generated content may be incorrect.](https://www.sweetstudy.com/questions/wk-5-dis-20923767)

How might data compiled and analyzed in your healthcare organization or nursing practice help support efforts aimed at patient quality and safety? Why might it be important to consider the how’s and why’s of data collection, application, and implementation? How might these practices shape your nursing practice or even the future of nursing?

For this Discussion, you will explore various topics related to data and consider the process and application of each. Reflect on the use of these applications, but also consider the implications of how these applications might shape the future of nursing and healthcare practice.

    To Prepare

    · Review the Learning Resources for this week related to the topics: Big Data, Data Science, Data Mining, Data Analytics, and Machine Learning.

    · Consider the process and application of each topic.

    · Reflect on how each topic relates to nursing practice.

By Day 3 of Week 5

**Post** a summary on how predictive analytics might be used to support healthcare.
**Note:** These topics may overlap as you will find in the readings (e.g., some processes require both Data Mining and Analytics).

In your post include the following:

    · Describe a practical application for predictive analytics in your nursing practice. What challenges and opportunities do you envision for the future of predictive analytics in healthcare?

By Day 6 of Week 5

**Read** a selection of your colleagues’ responses and
    **respond** to
**at least two** of your colleagues on
**two different days**. Expand upon your colleague’s posting or offer an alternative perspective.

Designing a Nursing Informatics Project for Your Organization (Continued)

![A person looking at a computer screen AI-generated content may be incorrect.](https://www.sweetstudy.com/questions/wk-5-assign)

You will use project management tools and strategies to propose how you would support and potentially implement a proposed nursing informatics project. While you may not have the opportunity to implement this proposed project, this project will allow you to apply the skills needed and the considerations that are required in deducing how a project of this scope might take place in your nursing practice. To complete this project, you will define an informatics project that would be beneficial to your healthcare organization or nursing practice. You can discuss this with upper leadership, in your practice or organization, explaining that you will need to design a proposed informatics project.

This week, you will complete the draft that you have been working on throughout the last four weeks.

**For Week 5,** complete the following:

    · Review all previous feedback and revise for final draft submission.

    · If earlier drafts identified Turnitin issues please address them this week.

    · Reach out to your faculty member if you have questions.

By Day 7 of Week 6

At the end of this week, you should have a final draft with all tables and figures completed. Please ensure you keep current/updated all documents as you develop this project.

    Understanding Depression in a Patient

You have have a new 28-year-old graduate student pursuing a master's degree in environmental science as a patient. She reports that over the past three months, she has been experiencing persistent feelings of sadness and a lack of interest in her studies and hobbies, which previously brought her joy. She reports difficulty concentrating, low energy levels, and feelings of worthlessness. Jane has also been withdrawing from her friends and family, missing social gatherings, and spending most of her time alone in her apartment.

Her sleep patterns have become irregular—she struggles to fall asleep at night but frequently oversleeps in the morning, causing her to miss important classes and deadlines. Her appetite has diminished, leading to noticeable weight loss. She acknowledges fleeting thoughts of hopelessness but denies any immediate plans to harm herself. Despite this, she feels overwhelmed and believes she is "failing at life."

She recently visited her primary care physician, who referred her to a mental health professional. After an initial assessment, Jane was diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). She has been prescribed antidepressant medication and encouraged to attend weekly therapy sessions. However, she is hesitant about taking medication due to concerns about side effects and feels skeptical about whether therapy will truly help her.

    1.
    **Symptoms and Diagnosis:**

    · What symptoms of depression does Jane exhibit, and how do they align with the diagnostic criteria for Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)?

    · How might her symptoms affect her daily functioning and relationships?

    2.
    **Stigma and Barriers:**

    · Why do you think Jane is hesitant to take antidepressant medication or commit to therapy?

    · What role might stigma or misinformation play in her reluctance?

    3.
    **Treatment and Support:**

    · What is the first line treatment with someone living with depression. What are some potential benefits of combining medication and therapy in treating depression. What education would the nurse practitioner need to provide to the patient.

    · What non-medical strategies could be useful to help manage her depression (e.g., lifestyle changes, support systems)?

    **Submission Instructions:**

    · Your initial post should be at least 500 words, formatted and cited in current APA style with support from at least 2 academic sources.

Write a paper (1,250–1,500 words) on cancer and the approach to care based on the utilization of the nursing process. Include the following in your paper:

    1. Identify a specific type of cancer and the available screening methods.

    2. Describe the different types of diagnostic methods across the life span utilized to identify possibility of cancer. Explain the numerical method and the tumor, node, metastasized (TNM) method of staging for cancer after the confirmed diagnosis.

    3. Anticipate outcomes of care (expected, unexpected, and potentially adverse). Describe at least three complications of your selected cancer, the side effects of treatment (excluding nausea, vomiting, and hair loss), and methods to lessen physical and psychological effects, including alternative measures and pharmaceutical/herbal options.

    4. Summarize cancer incident rates for your selected cancer. What preventative measures can be taken to reduce the yearly morbidity and mortality rate of various cancers in Americans?

    5. Explain what the American Cancer Society (ACS) might provide for education and support. What ACS services could a nurse recommend for these patients and why?
