    Professional Development Plan

The Program of Study (POS) for your specialization and the Professional Development Plan (PDP) help you to become familiar with the courses you will take, when they will be completed, and how the degree program fits into your overall academic and professional goals. For this Assignment, you write a Professional Development Plan to submit to the Week 5 Assignment submission link.

Throughout your degree program you will create a professional portfolio. In each course, one Assignment will be designated for inclusion in your portfolio. This portfolio provides a rich opportunity to evidence your growth as a scholar-practitioner. For this course, your PDP will serve as the artifact for your Portfolio.

Note: As you progress through the program, ensure that you save all of your portfolio assignments on your computer and to backup those files to a secure device such as a flash drive or external hard drive. You will have a variety of Instructors throughout your program, and it is your responsibility to save these assignments for your portfolio.

TIP: Create a new folder for each course on your computer’s hard drive using the course number and title. Within each course folder, create an additional folder and label it “Portfolio.” Then, save the Portfolio assignment with a clear title such as “Professional Development Plan.”

    To prepare:

Review the information on the Program of Study (POS) and Professional Development Plan (PDP) presented in this week’s Learning Resources. Review the Week 5 Assignment Rubric presented in this week’s Learning Resources. Develop your Professional Development Plan (PDP) following the example presented in the Learning Resources and the assignment grading rubric criteria. Ensure that all content required is included in paper.

    To complete:

Utilizing Microsoft Word, begin by formatting the paper in correct APA (i.e. title page, double space, Times New Roman size 12 font, headers, page numbers, headings). To ensure that all content required is included in the paper, review Week 5 Professional Development Plan assignment rubric and the Professional Development Plan example. Write your PDP using scholarly writing, correct grammar, and proper APA citations. Review the APA Basics Checklist: Citations, Reference List, and Style to make sure that your citations are correct. This document should represent your best professional effort.

  • Leadership Practices

    Leadership Practices

Create a presentation that analyzes leadership practices, models, and your own abilities as they relate to innovation and, write a 2–3-page analysis of a presentation plan.

By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies and assessment criteria:

Competency 1: Analyze contemporary leadership practices and models from the perspective of innovation.

Analyze the practices of an innovative leader to reveal lessons for a company.

Competency 2: Assess personal skills at leading innovation in organizations.

Evaluate one’s own leadership skills and practices that foster organizational innovation.

Competency 3: Analyze models of innovation and change management to create a culture of innovation.

Analyze a model of innovation to reveal why it is appropriate for a company.

Analyze the innovative merits of a plan against successful practices and models of innovation.

Competency 4: Communicate in a manner that is professional and consistent with expectations for members of the business professions.

Create a presentation that effectively communicates content to an audience.

    In the introduction to
    Leading Innovation
, DeGraff and Quinn (2007) note:

A quick look around reveals that innovation has many forms, including a better or new product, such as a car; a combination of products, such as a hybrid cell phone; a fashion, such as a designer dress; a business model, such as a short-distance airline; a marketing campaign, such as one for a mature product that makes it seem new; a service, such as a bank that offers customized products and services; an attribute, such as orange juice that helps clean your arteries; and a package, such as a paint can that never spills. What do these forms of innovation have in common? Nothing! (p. 6)

If asked for commentary on that statement, the authors of our readings and the presenters of our presentations throughout our course might very well disagree. They might argue that all of those cases of legitimate and meaningful innovation have the common attribute of innovation leadership and innovative organizations. While each case of innovation had a very different road to discovery and fruition, in every case, leaders and organizations were involved. It is very likely that in every case, elements of the skills and practices of disruptive innovators and innovative organizations would be evident.

As your exploration of disruptive innovators and innovative organizations in this course comes to a close, you have an opportunity to reflect once again on your own proficiency with the skills, practices, and models we have been studying. Now that you have carefully examined these skills, practices, and models and have studied leaders that use and exhibit them, you might have more insight regarding your own application to create innovative cultures in your own organizations. You might see new opportunities to use the skills, practices, and models and develop new ones.

You might also see new opportunities to encourage the characteristics of innovative organizations. Perhaps you do not have control of an entire organization or even a department. Perhaps at this point in your career you are aspiring to be a future leader of innovation. Nevertheless, you still may be able to encourage the practice of these skills in people, the development of processes that encourage the practice of those skills, and philosophies that support leaders to create cultures of innovation.

    Questions to Consider

As you prepare to complete this assessment, you may want to think about other related issues to deepen your understanding or broaden your viewpoint. You are encouraged to consider the questions below and discuss them with a fellow learner, a work associate, an interested friend, or a member of your professional community. Note that these questions are for your own development and exploration and do not need to be completed or submitted as part of your assessment.

In this assessment you are asked to create a story to engage your company to become more innovative. Consider the following:

Who is the audience you wish to persuade?

How will you use components of storytelling (i.e. emotional, novel, and memorable) in your story?

How would you follow up to ensure that the passion you created in the initial story launch is contagious?

    Assessment Instructions

    Note:
The assessments in this course build upon one another and should be completed in sequence.

    Overview

In this course, you have explored three areas as they relate to corporate innovation:

Contemporary leadership practices and models that support innovation.

Personal skills and leadership practices that drive innovation and the creation of innovative organizations.

Models of innovation and change management that leaders use to create a culture of innovation.

This final assessment challenges you to integrate these concepts while focusing how to begin down the path of creating an innovative culture in your company.

    Course Scenario

Your germ of an idea that started with a simple question at the global leadership conference is now in full bloom. You have researched leadership principles and models, assessed your own leadership and innovative aptitudes, and analyzed both Design Thinking and a change management model.

Assume that you have approached leadership with your stated enthusiasm for introducing an innovative mentality into the company’s culture, and that they were supportive and have asked you to present your findings to the company.

You know your content and message must tell a story that includes an analysis of innovative leadership practices, models of innovation, and a profile of a successful leader in the same or similar industry. It needs to provide real-world examples and hint at a path for ushering a culture of innovation at the company.

Finally, you know that acceptance of your idea is one thing, but you want your leadership to consider you for the job of further promoting innovative thinking and practices in your organization. So, you want to include an appraisal of your leadership and innovation abilities to do the job.

During a subsequent meeting with leadership to discuss the details of how you will share your findings, a division head suggests that you be given an hour slot at the next annual meeting where you can give a PowerPoint presentation on your research. You may also invite a guest speaker (preferably one that you profiled). Another senior manager quips, “That doesn’t sound terribly innovative to me.” They both turn to you for your opinion; you hesitate before responding, knowing that your answer had better be supported by the leadership practices, models, and examples that you extolled in your presentation. You also know that this opportunity is a part of a shifting organizational culture, so it should probably be vetted through a change management model. You ask for a bit of time to consider the plan to present at the annual meeting…

    Directions

Note: Be sure to read the Overview and Course Scenario above.

    Part 1: The Message

Consider the Design Thinking Process as you create a presentation (in a form of your choosing; make sure you describe how it will be done—PowerPoint with speech, play, video, et cetera) for an internal company audience that highlights leadership practices and models that have fostered a culture of innovation in a competitor or a company from a similar industry (profile a different leader and company from the first assessment in this course). The goal is to inform your audience and to show how these practices, principles, and models can be applied to your company. (Make sure to describe any assumptions or include any details about your company that will help to clarify or support your analysis below.)

    Your presentation should:

Analyze the practices of an innovative leader in the same or similar industry as your company. Include lessons learned that are applicable to your company and why or how they apply.

Analyze a model of innovation that is suitable for your company to adopt and why it is appropriate. It should allow an audience to visualize a path to being more innovative.

Part 2: Presenting the Plan and Yourself

Do the following in a 2–3-page document to leadership, notifying them of your analysis of the plan to present at the annual conference:

Analyze the innovative merits of the plan to present at the annual conference using the innovation principles and models you have examined in this course. Reference each of the bulleted items below in your analysis. For instance, you might consider questions such as the following: “Do models of innovation support this idea? Where does it fall short?” or, “Would this be a practice of an innovative leader? or, “Would Design Thinking suggest this idea?” or, “Is this something that would be consistent with a change model?”

    Effective practices of innovative leaders.

    Models of innovation.

Design Thinking or the change model you chose to consider in Assessment 4.

At the end of the document, it is your chance to sell yourself as an agent of change for the company. Consider your self-analysis from Assessment 2, as well as any subsequent introspection, and assess your abilities to be successful as the presenter and as a leader of cultural change in the company.

    Additional Requirements

Length: Presentation as appropriate to fully convey the analysis; Part 2 document: 2–3 pages double-spaced.

Font: 12 point, Times New Roman.

References: Minimum of 3–5 references, using current APA style and formatting.

  • Mission and Vision statements in Strategic Management

Mission and Vision statements in Strategic Management

    Introduction

A Vision Statement is a single sentence statement that aims at describing in a clear and an inspirational manner about the long-term desired and intended change that is going to be unfolding as a result of the organization work.

Further, a vision statement goes on to describe the future of how the organization intends to achieve its mission.

Any organizations vision must tend to be realistic, credible and also attractive for the sake of the future of the organization.

On the other hand, a mission statement of an organization defines the business, the products or the services and its values to the customer.

In addition, a mission statement allows the organization to differentiate itself from competitors by answering three key questions: What do we do, for whom do we do it, and what is the benefit?

Significance of vision and mission statements for an organization

The significance of vision and mission statements for an organization is of vital importance in today’s world. It enhances the organization’s strategic value and gives it a strategic direction.

Without having a strong individual as well as organizational values, success for any organization will be far to reach. Without developing a mission, vision, and values to assist in developing a strategy, an organization will be unable to not only identify but also will be unable to distinguish or be able to portray itself to neither its own employees nor customers alike. Mission and Vision statements in Strategic Management.

Vision Statement: “Health and care, we intend to deliver both.”

Mission Statement: “Spreading Health and care.”

Specific Strategic Goals to ensure alliance with the ideals in the Vision and Mission statements of the organization

Healthcare today faces challenges in all perspectives, ranging from finance to government reforms and policies, technology and up to customer satisfaction. These challenges require healthcare organizations to step back and assess the organization’s strategic goals and plans on a regular basis.

In fact, strategic thinking, evaluating and modeling are becoming requirements for an organization to survive the turbulent healthcare climate.

Strategic planning and goal setting provide a general roadmap as to where the organization is headed and how the journey has been and is going to be ahead. Mission and Vision statements in Strategic Management.

Strategic planning and goal setting tend to guide decision making in an organization, including decisions regarding capital, staff, resources including technology and others. (Drewniak Rob, 2010)

    QUALITY:
To ensure the delivery of healthcare with care and compassion, every time.

The first specific strategic goals to ensure alliance with the ideals in the Vision and Mission statements of the organization is to embed a person centered philosophy of care into the everyday working ethics of the organization that brings excellence not only in care but also in dignity and the meaning and the connectedness of the lives of humble and honored customers.

Further, to ensure quality, there is a need to assure excellence concerning acute services provided while strengthening the current care provided to ensure smooth service and flow for all the patients. Mission and Vision statements in Strategic Management.

Lastly, in order to ensure quality, we intend to enhance our quality culture, processes and the outcomes of our processes thus ensuring that it leads to an exceptional care and service that fully adheres to our accreditation standards with exemplary standing and provide an exceptional health care experience through the development and provision of patient-and family-centered care.

    SAFETY:
Creation a culture of safety to ensure the safety of everyone.

The second specific strategic goals to ensure alliance with the ideals in the Vision and Mission statements of the organization are to embed a general culture of safety for everyone within the working culture of the organization.

For this, there is a need to advance our patient safety especially focused on medication safety and safety in terms of prevention of the patients from infections.

Further, there is also need to create a rewarding environment that tends to reward those who ensure safety in the organization. There is also need to develop fulfill a safety framework throughout the organization with preventing injury and violence in the workplace.

             INNOVATION:
To be in a relentless pursuance towards innovation to meet the needs in new and better way.

The third specific strategic goals to ensure alliance with the ideals in the Vision and Mission statements of the organization are to focus on innovations that enhance care and create support that is dynamic and sustainable in long terms.

For this, we intend to ensure that we demonstrate good stewardship of resources through enhancing our culture of accountability.

Lastly, we also intend to realize the effectiveness of using information technology through a consistent implementation of technological elements such as e-health records and other information systems. Mission and Vision statements in Strategic Management.

A prime example as to how innovation and care have ensured success can be better understood by understanding the efforts of Dr. Devi Shetty from India. “Hands that serve are more sacred than lips that pray.” The words of Mother Teresa had a profound effect on Dr. Devi Shetty, who was the late Nobel laureate’s personal cardiac surgeon in the early 1990’s.

In India, quality care and affordability never went hand in hand before, especially for cardiac care. That intent on affordability had been satisfied with low-quality care available at public run hospitals in India, while that intent on quality relied on costly high-quality private care.

This prompted Dr. Shetty to begin searching for a model that would marry affordability with quality care.

His organization, Narayana Health, in Bangalore, has today achieved this success of affordable quality health care to all people.

It has so far gone on to perform over 100,000 cardiac surgeries and over 250,000 cardiac lab procedures. (“Innovation: Narayana health ties affordability, quality,” 2017). Mission and Vision statements in Strategic Management.

    Three service delivery components that will be necessary elements of the organization’s value chain geared toward achieving the strategic goals identified include;

    -Information and Communications Systems.

    -Patient Care Enhancing Technology.

-Establishment of a balance between cost and benefit in favor of both the organization as well as the patient.

Analysis as to why these and other delivery and support components of the value chain that are  identified are essential for the sake of the achievement of the organization’s goals:

Exchange of information is very crucial for the delivery of at every level of health care delivery. From the patient care to the encompassing political-economic environment, exchange of information is very extremely crucial. (Reid, Compton, Grossman, & Fanjiang, 2005). Mission and Vision statements in Strategic Management.

To ensure better diagnosis and appropriate treatments to individual patients in an effective manner, health care providers and care teams must today have access to at least three major types of clinical information which includes the patient’s health record, provider orders guiding the process of patient care and the rapidly changing medical evidence base.

Further, as per American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), new technologies in the health care industry are necessary to keep up with the increasing demands on the industry. (Healthcare Pathway, 2009)

Some of such major technological advancements include the Electronic Health Record, the m-Health or mobile health, telemedicine/telehealth, surgical procedures such as angioplasty and others, newer drugs such as biologic agents, sophisticated medical devices such as CT scanners and others.

The most important and “fundamental issue of healthcare economics.” since long continues to be the study of “cost-versus-benefit analysis.” In recent times, the demands of increased productivity in spite of a lack of adequate financial resources from a larger section of the population has brought about a  renewed discussion on cost-effectiveness in medical care. Mission and Vision statements in Strategic Management.

It is a well-known fact that despite abundant technological advancement in the U.S concerning health care among developed nations, the U.S has not been able to achieve better public health. The U.S in various reports ranks tenth or below for multiple public health-related indicators such births weight percentages, neonatal mortality, life expectancy and others.

The problem is that Healthcare professional and even common citizens have come to equate newer medical technology with better health care.

That is, there is a huge problem of misconception within the U.S health care system over the aspect of the impact of technology.

Such misconceptions are leading to unscientific use and promotion of technology in health care which in turn is giving rise to cost in health care. Mission and Vision statements in Strategic Management.

Thus, the establishment of a balance between cost and benefit for both the organization as well as the patient as a powerful component of the organization will go a long way in ensuring the delivery of affordable quality health care.

Lastly, one of the most crucial support components that I feel is required as per my vision and mission statement includes the fire safety systems at healthcare centers, especially hospitals.  Fire Detection Systems are Key Components of Hospitals.

Fire detection and alarm systems today which include the automatic sprinkler systems have today come to become major safety components in health care occupancies. Mission and Vision statements in Strategic Management.
