    #### **Addressing Stigma and Barriers to Substance Use Treatment**
**Objective:** This discussion post aims to foster a reflective and empathetic understanding of the stigma associated with substance use treatment and to identify potential barriers to accessing mental health services. By considering both personal and marginalized perspectives, you will gain insights into the challenges faced by individuals seeking help for substance use-related issues.
    **Assignment Instructions:**
    **Introduction:**
    – **Contextualize the Issue:**
    – Begin by discussing the significant stigma surrounding receiving treatment for substance use-related issues. Reference relevant studies or reports that highlight how stigma can impact individuals seeking help and the broader implications for public health.
    **1. Personal Reflection:**
    – **Reflect on Your Social Circle and Community:**
    – **Receptivity and Support:**
    – Reflect on your personal experiences and consider whether your friends and family would be receptive and supportive if you sought treatment for drug use issues. Discuss factors that might influence their reactions, such as cultural beliefs, awareness of substance use issues, and prior experiences with mental health treatment.
    – **Questions to Consider:**
    – Would your loved ones understand the importance of seeking treatment, or might there be misunderstandings or judgments?
    – How might your social circle's values and attitudes shape their support or lack thereof?
    – **Barriers to Accessing Treatment:**
    – Identify potential barriers you might experience when attempting to schedule an appointment with a behavioral health treatment center or provider. Consider logistical, financial, and social factors.
    – **Questions to Consider:**
    – Are there long wait times for appointments in your area?
    – Are there financial constraints, such as a lack of insurance coverage or high out-of-pocket costs?
    – Are there cultural or societal stigmas that might deter you from seeking help?
    **2. Empathetic Perspective:**
    – **Putting Yourself in the Shoes of Someone Marginalized:**
    – **Identifying Additional Barriers:**
    – Imagine being someone who is marginalized in your social circle or community. Discuss additional barriers they might experience when attempting to access mental health services.
    – **Factors to Consider:**
    – **Socioeconomic Status:** How might limited financial resources and lack of insurance exacerbate barriers to treatment?
    – **Cultural and Linguistic Barriers:** How might language differences and cultural misunderstandings hinder access to care?
    – **Social Isolation:** How might a lack of social support and networks contribute to feelings of helplessness and prevent individuals from seeking help?
    – **Discrimination and Prejudice:** How might experiences of discrimination or prejudice in healthcare settings discourage marginalized individuals from pursuing treatment?
    – **Questions to Consider:**
    – What specific challenges might someone face if they belong to a racial or ethnic minority group, LGBTQ+ community, or are living with a disability?
    – How can systemic issues, such as institutional biases or lack of culturally competent care, impact their ability to access services?
    **3. Critical Analysis and Solutions:**
    – **Analyze the Impact of Stigma and Barriers:**
    – Critically analyze how stigma and barriers to accessing treatment can affect the health outcomes and well-being of individuals with substance use-related issues. Use evidence from scholarly sources to support your analysis.
    – **Consider Broader Implications:**
    – Discuss how addressing stigma and improving access to treatment can benefit public health and reduce the overall burden of substance use disorders in communities.
    – **Propose Solutions:**
    – Suggest strategies to overcome the identified barriers and reduce stigma associated with substance use treatment. Consider the roles of healthcare providers, policymakers, and community organizations.
    – **Examples of Strategies:**
    – **Education and Awareness Campaigns:** Promote understanding and acceptance of substance use treatment through public education initiatives.
    – **Culturally Competent Care:** Advocate for training healthcare providers in cultural competency to better serve diverse populations.
    – **Policy Changes:** Support policies that increase funding for mental health services, reduce financial barriers, and ensure equitable access to care.
    **Conclusion:**
    – **Summarize Key Points:**
    – Recap the main insights gained from reflecting on personal and marginalized perspectives regarding the stigma and barriers to substance use treatment.
Please note the grading rubric for the discussion board.
As a reminder, all discussion posts must be a minimum of 400 words initial, references must be cited in APA format 7th Edition, and must include a minimum of 2 scholarly resources published within the past 3 years.

    ## Project #3: Presentation for Board of Directors

    ### Your Task:

Padgett-Beale’s Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) has tasked you to continue supporting the Merger & Acquisition team’s efforts to bring Island Banking Services’ security program into compliance with U.S. laws and regulations. The M&A team has provisionally accepted the draft cybersecurity strategy and draft implementation plan which you prepared previously. The M&A team has now requested that you contribute a set of summary slides for the M&A team’s Decision Briefing (presentation) to the Padgett-Beale Board of Directors. This briefing is one of the final steps in obtaining approval for the M&A team’s plan for integrating the newly purchased company – Island Banking Services – into Padgett-Beale as Padgett-Beale, Inc Financial Services (PBI-FS).

Before you begin developing your presentation, review your work products from Projects 1 & 2. As you do so, identify the most likely or most significant barriers to success (factors which increase the risk of failure). These can include barriers arising from external factors as well as issues arising from internal company sources. Consider culture and organizational conflict as well as legal and regulatory issues. For each factor, identify a countermeasure or compensatory action which the company could take to reduce the risk of failure. Select the five most significant barriers to success from your analysis. You will include these in your presentation slides.

    ### Develop Your Presentation:

Using your prior work (Projects 1 & 2), develop a high-level summary presentation of your Cybersecurity Strategy and the Implementation Plan. You will need between 20-30 slides to fully address the requirements listed below; this slide count includes the slides for titles, section titles, and references. Remember to include speaker notes for the agenda slide, section title slides, and content slides. Your notes should be at least 20 words / one paragraph but no longer than 150 words / 3 paragraphs per slide.

Your presentation must include the following:

    · Title Slide with title, your name, the date, and this course

    · Agenda Slide

    · Overview of the M&A effort (multiple slides – use the assignment overviews / background sections to put together a summary that answers: who, what, where, why, how)

    · Section Title Slide: Cybersecurity Strategy

    · Content Slides: provide a summary of your proposed Cybersecurity Strategy (Project 1)

    · Section Title Slide: Cybersecurity Implementation Plan

    · Content Slides: provide a summary of your proposed Cybersecurity Implementation Plan

    · Section Title Slide: Barriers to Success

    · Content Slides: five separate slides – one for each factor (identify each barrier to success and provide a recommended countermeasure or compensating action that the company could implement to reduce the risk of failure). This section will expand upon your “barriers to success” as discussed in Project #2.

    · Section Title Slide: Summary & Recommendations

    · Content Slide: present a recommendation that the strategy & implementation plan be approved by the Board of Directors for adoption and implementation by the company. Include 5 major business benefits of adoption and implementation. This may be new content (not previously included in projects 1 & 2).

    · Section Title Slide: References

    · Content Slides(s) that include reference list entries for your resources. Do not cite your own work for Projects 1 & 2.

    ### Putting It All Together

MS Power Point .pptx format is the preferred delivery format; this application can be accessed via the Web or downloaded from UMGC under the university’s enterprise license for student use of Office 365. For more information see:
    [https://www.umgc.edu/help/help-article-base.html?knowledgeArticleId=kA00W000000sZpeSAE&articleType=FAQ_IT__kav](https://www.umgc.edu/help/help-article-base.html?knowledgeArticleId=kA00W000000sZpeSAE&articleType=FAQ_IT__kav)

If you are unable to use Power Point, you may use another presentation application to create your slides and speaker notes. After you have done so, print your presentation slides to PDF and deliver the assignment as a PDF document. If you deliver as PDF, you must make sure that your speaker notes are visible and accompany each slide.

    ### Additional Information

    1. Consult the grading rubric for specific content and formatting requirements for this assignment.

    2. Your presentation should be professional in appearance with consistent use of fonts, font sizes, margins, etc.

    3. You must include a title slide with the assignment title, your name, and the due date. Your reference list must be on a separate slide at the end of your file.

    4. You are expected to write grammatically correct English in every assignment that you submit for grading. Do not turn in any work without (a) using spell check, (b) using grammar check, (c) verifying that your punctuation is correct and (d) reviewing your work for correct word usage and correctly structured sentences and paragraphs.

    5. You are expected to credit your sources using in-text citations and reference list entries. Both your citations and your reference list entries must follow a consistent citation style (APA, MLA, etc.). To reduce visual clutter, you may put citations for sources into footnotes at the bottom of your slides (instead of putting citations at the ends of bullet points).

    Assignment Prompt & Instructions

As the start-up continues to scale and grow, the chief human resources officer (CHRO) has observed a noticeable uptick in complaints from present and former employees based on real or perceived violations of local, state, and federal employment laws. Complaints such as violations of the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and pay, along with allegations of discrimination and wrongful termination, have started to grow along with the organization. While not having a significant impact on the business, the importance of firmly establishing consistent business practices to support employment law requirements is a concern with the continued growth planned.
    ## Directions
After reviewing recent concerns, the CHRO and in-house counsel have asked you to craft an email to share with leaders across the organization. For this email, you have been asked to select three to four employment laws that you feel are important. While the code of conduct, policies, and other annual and new-employee training sessions are sufficient, the time has come to ensure that the leaders understand their role in supporting employment law within the organization.
Specifically, you must address the following rubric criteria:
    1. **Email Considerations:**Prepare an email that includes an appropriate subject line, recipients, date and time, and signature.
    1. It is important to consider precisely what group the email will be sent to. Will it be sent as a company communication in which employees can “reply all” or as a “BCC” in which employees will not be able to respond? Why is it important that this group receive this email?
    2. **Ethical Implications:** Describe the ethical implications that should be considered in the situation provided.
    3. **Legal Implications:** Describe legal implications that should be considered in the situation, including specific laws applicable.
    4. **Specific Approach:** Recommend a specific approach for meeting organizational needs while maintaining ethical and responsible practices.
