    1. Students will produce a substantial research assignment of no less than 2000 and no more than  2500 words. Word count does not include the title page or the references page(s).
    2. The Capstone assignment will follow current APA Style guidelines.
    3. Minimum required sections of the assignment include: an introduction (based on the student’s  research proposal); a literature review of at least seven (7) scholarly sources; a section(s) which  addresses the ethical perspectives related to the topic; synthesis; and a conclusion.
    4. Capstone assignment may be argumentative or analytical. Argumentative – The argumentative research assignment consists of an introduction in which  the writer clearly introduces the topic and informs the audience exactly which stance the learner  intends to take; this stance is often identified as the thesis statement. Analytical – The analytical research assignment often begins with the learner asking a  question (i.e., a research question) on which the learner has taken no stance. Such a assignment is  often an exercise in exploration and evaluation.
    5. Incorporate scholarly resources and Sergeants Major Course (SMC) curricula concepts,  information, and knowledge.

    CHAPTER 10 MIXED METHODS PROCEDURES

    LEARNING OBJECTIVES
    1. Describe each of the six characteristics of mixed methods research to use in a definition.
    2. Create a justification for using mixed methods research in a proposal or study.
    3. Define key terms used in mixed methods, such as open- and closed-ended data, research design, integration, joint displays, and metainferences when presented in

    a proposal or study.
    4. Contrast quantitative and qualitative data when presented in a study.
    5. Identify for a core design its intent, procedures for data collection, integration, metainferences, and validity.
    6. Choose a type of mixed methods design for a study, and present reasons for the choice.
    7. Identify the elements that go into an integration statement for a proposal or a study.

    INTRODUCTION
Up until this point, we have considered writing quantitative and qualitative methods. We have not discussed “mixing” or combining the two forms of data in a study: a
mixed methods procedure. We can start with the assumption that both forms of data provide different types of information (open-ended data in the case of qualitative and
closed-ended data in the case of quantitative). Suppose we further assume that each type of data collection has both limitations and strengths. In that case we can consider
how to combine the strengths to develop a stronger understanding of the research problem or questions (and overcome the limitations of each). In a sense, more insight into a
problem must be gained from mixing or integrating the quantitative and qualitative data. This “mixing” or integrating of data provides a stronger understanding of the
problem or question than either by itself. Mixed methods research is simply “mining” the databases more by integrating them. This idea is at the core of a new methodology
    called “mixed methods research.”

Table 10.1 shows a checklist of the mixed methods procedures addressed in this chapter. The checklist follows the chapter topics and some important terms for engaging in
    this methodology.

Table 10.1 A Checklist of Questions for Designing a Mixed Methods Procedure

Perusal Assignment (I attached the textbook and this is coming from chapter 10 (
    **MIXED METHOD PROCEDURES**)

    1. Look in paragraph 1 under Mixed Methods Research in Perspective in the text, and explain the paragraph, that starts with “
**_mixed method research as a distinct methodology originating around the 1980’s_**”) Write 75 words to explain this.

    2. Go to the third paragraph, under Mixed Methods Research in Perspective in the text and explain this paragraph in 75 words. It will start with (
_an international community of mixed methods scholars_).

    3. Go to the next topic, entitled “
    _c_
_**haracteristics of mixed methods research**”_ and write about the paragraph that starts with (
_understanding mixed methods growth and popularity helps frame_)

    4. Go to the next prompt (
**Justification for using mixed method research**) and write 100 words regarding the paragraph that starts with (
    _numerous reasons can justify_)

    5. Go to the next prompt entitled (
**Definitions of Mixed Method Terms**) and write 50 words just explaining what open and closed ended data.

    Part 1 of 1

______ Have you defined mixed methods research?

______ Do you justify using mixed methods methodology for your problem and question?

______ Have you collected both quantitative and qualitative data?

    Part 1 of 1

______ Have you defined mixed methods research?

______ Do you justify using mixed methods methodology for your problem and question?

______ Have you collected both quantitative and qualitative data?

Specific: During my clinical rotation, I aim to observe or co-lead a minimum of two sessions focused on family therapy or psychoeducation.

Measurable: My preceptor will keep a record of and assess attendance and participation.

Achievable: There are opportunities for family involvement in outpatient and pediatric settings.

Relevant: In the field of child and adolescent psychiatry, it is essential to comprehend family dynamics.

Timely: Should be finished by the end of week 11.

    Wheeler, 2020

I aim to acquire experience in dealing with families, particularly regarding mental health issues in children and adolescents. I will strive to attend or help lead at least two family sessions, where I will observe communication patterns and the therapist's role. This will aid me in providing better support for family systems and overall patient care.

    9

Present 1 Case Study During Clinical Rounds

Specific: I will present a detailed psychiatric case, along with its diagnosis and treatment plan, to my clinical team.

Measurable: My preceptor or instructor will schedule and evaluate the presentation.

Achievable: I will select a patient I’ve been monitoring and prepare with my preceptor’s guidance.

Relevant: Showcasing patient cases enhances critical thinking and equips me for actual teamwork.

Timely: The completion will occur by the end of week 12.

    Wheeler, 2020

To achieve this goal, I intend to present a comprehensive case study during rounds. I will choose a patient I have collaborated with and provide a summary of their history, diagnosis, treatment, and response. This exercise will assist in developing my confidence regarding the articulation of clinical reasoning and communication with interdisciplinary teams.

    10

Enhance the accuracy of documentation and charting

Specific: I will enhance my clinical documentation by ensuring all chart entries are completed within 24 hours and obtaining weekly feedback from my preceptor.

Measurable: The accuracy and timeliness will be monitored through the examination of chart audits and preceptor notes.

Achievable: I will maintain structure by using EMR templates and charting checklists.

Relevant: Safe and legal psychiatric practice relies heavily on accurate documentation.

Timely: This will be upheld consistently over the course of the term and reviewed every two weeks.

    American Nurses Credentialing Center, 2023

This goal pertains to clinical documentation, which is vital for continuity of care, legal precision, and effective communication. To keep organized, I will utilize checklists and EMR templates, and I will make sure to document all encounters within a 24-hour timeframe. My notes will be reviewed weekly by my preceptor for feedback.

Theories of education are important for teachers to understand because they will guide a teacher’s educational beliefs, practices, and decisions. Models provide a framework for the systems and processes within early childhood education and inform education standards, both at the state and national levels.

For this assignment, utilize resources found in the GCU Library and the course textbook to research theories that have influenced early childhood education. Select four theories from the list below:

    · Bronfenbrenner’s ecological systems theory

    · Piaget's cognitive development theory

    · Vygotsky's sociocultural constructivism theory

    · Bowlby's attachment theory

    · Bandura's social learning theory

    · Erikson's psychosocial theory

    · Maslow's hierarchy of needs theory

For each theory, write 200-300 words about the following:

    · Summary of each theory, including the timeframe in which the theory was developed.

    · How the theory has influenced early childhood education.

    · How each theory can be applied to make developmentally appropriate decisions in curriculum and instruction.

Support your work with 2-3 scholarly references.

Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.
