  • Health policies Essay

    Comment on the Health policies student essay below

    Political institutions are fundamental in the health sector in establishing democracy and economic growth. It is worth mentioning that political rights are guaranteed financial performance within the health spectrum. Electoral process and government are significant in both family life and daily work in the sense that public concerns are addressed democratically by voting representatives. Apart from democracy, electoral process can induce change within the scope of leadership.

    Health policies affect practitioners inclusive of nurses not only in their area of work but also as an individual. (Bristol and Zerwekh, 2011) Quality within a system of healthcare depends on how stuff executes their respective duties without which delegation of responsibilities is incoherent. Right health policies take into account the rights of the nurses and protect their interests regarding the allocation of finances within the arena.

    For instance, mental health policies address the concerns of the contextual factors of epidemiology. Besides strengthening skills, quality of life and patient outcomes depends on the correct implementation of the health policies within the avenue of health. (Bristol and Zerwekh, 2011) Consequently, strict adherence to ethical conduct and integrity within the health domain is fueled by sound health policies. Regulatory policies relative to handling of emergencies might drive nurses’ involvement in political campaigns

    Creating organizational policies such as nurse staffing and workplace advocacy strategies are integral in situations where nurse’s voices neglected within the health avenue, empowering of practitioners within the health sector batten up the delivery of quality of health. Conversely shared governance contribute profoundly to ensuring that nurse’s voices heard. Such strategies will ensure that nurses are efficiently involved in workplace decisions affecting patient care.

    Communicable disease chain is an infectious disease transmissible from one  person to  another  by direct contact with an affected individual. There are 6 links in which the infection can be transmitted which are the host, Agent, Reservoir, mode of escape, mode of transmission, mode of entry. By breaking this chain at any of the links, the spread of infection is stopped.

    There are steps the nurse can take to break a link within the communicable disease by implementing standard precaution and infection control precaution. For example, a patient with infected wound  ( MRSA) . The nurse can prevent outbreak by proper technique of hand washing, use personal protective equipment, enhancing environmental cleaning and disinfection, proper handling and disposal of wound dressings.

  • Health Care Delivery Systems and HIV and AIDS Fight

    Give a Positive Response to the following on Health Care Delivery Systems and HIV and AIDS Fight;

    One significant global issue is HIV and AIDS that has affected 33.3 million adults and children who are living and infected with this disease worldwide. (Maurer & Smith, 2013).  Unfortunately, many people do not wish to know the results of testing or share their HIV status with at-risk partners skewing the true numbers.  According to Maurer & Smith (2013), the United States has 1.7 million people alone living with this disease and over 617,000 who have died of AIDS with it being the third leading cause of death in African-Americans aged 25-45. However, there has been some decline due to prevention efforts and the large-scale use of antiretroviral therapies helping to give those with HIV more productive lives. But, as the number of people living with HIV increases, the need to push for national HIV prevention and health care programs is essential along with improving access to quality healthcare.

    Health care delivery systems can work together to help fight HIV and AIDS by sharing information, resources, and funding to help make a difference and end health disparities.  A great example is the World Health Organization (WHO).  They provide health care services and technical support to mostly poor countries and works like the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention does for the United States.  The WHO guides and organizes international health projects, collaborates with other organizations and agencies in healthcare programs, and watches the conditions worldwide on disease conditions while providing reports. (Maurer & Smith, 2013).  Improving global health together can be achieved more effectively working as one versus in silos.

    Health care systems can work together with organizations like the WHO, World Health Organization, and keep up on Ebola information, outbreaks and update any new findings in research to treat this.  Educating all communities and travelers on possibilities of infections when overseas and how to properly protect oneself from contracting this virus or any other for that matter. Having proper vaccines up to date and medications available, or resources in the even of an infection is important. Quick reporting of any symptoms can assist in halting its spread.

  • Global health issue and its impact on the larger health care system- Ebola

    Give a Positive Response to the following;

    Briefly describe the global health issue and its impact on the larger health care system (i.e., continents, regions, countries, states, and health departments).

    Ebola, previously known as Ebola hemorrhagic fever, is a rare and deadly disease caused by infection with one of the Ebola virus species. Ebola can cause disease in humans and nonhuman primates (monkeys, gorillas, and chimpanzees). It was first discovered in 1976 in an area now known as the Congo.  The natural reservoir host of Ebola virus remains unknown, however, researcher highly suspect bats as the main reservoir. 4 of 5 of viral strains occur in animal hosts native to Africa. This virus is passed on quickly by bodily fluids transmitted from one person to another, whether it is semen, blood, saliva, vomit, breast milk etc. We saw the last outbreak in 2014, and the world was in panic.  Many people travel from areas in Africa often and return home within a 24 hour time and may have been exposed, now bringing the virus into another country as is what happened in 2014.  It can be difficult to really adequately monitor the millions of travelers daily.  Many health care workers had to be trained in what Ebola was, how to detect symptoms, how to care for these people and also keep yourself safe as well as other people surrounding them.  All MD offices, ER and many other medical facilities now ask when a patient comes in if they have traveled out of the country, especially to West Africa when they arrive.  Any time there is an outbreak this can create a lot of stress, chaos, and many manhours dealing with containment and treatment and even dealing with death.
