Then you will use the steps of the scientific method to prepare a research plan, including a bibliography for a literature review. 2. Select one of the articles.
    A. MLA citation:

Heredia Rodriguez, Carmen. “Adjunct Professors: Jobs Are Low on Pay and Health

    A. The issue I have identified is the need to provide healthcare for adjunct professors.
    B. One perspective is that healthcare is a right and that a healthy faculty leads to a healthy

Some might argue that professors should just “get a better job.” Others might argue
that healthcare should be provided by the federal government rather than employers.
Community colleges might argue that they already are underfunded and cannot afford
    to provide healthcare without collapsing.

    5. State the purpose of your research.
    A. I want to learn more about possible solutions for adjunct professors not having

    healthcare access.
    B. Research will help me to better understand the current state of the issue and what

    MODULE ONE ASSIGNMENT- ENG 190

    Overview

As you begin to consider the project due in Module Seven, you will begin the first phase of research for the project. This includes selecting an article, identifying potential topics, drafting a research question, and discussing the purpose of your research. The creation of a research question is crucial, as it drives your research focus. The research question will clarify your topic and ask a question that you will later answer in your persuasive essay. This week’s research question is a draft that you will have the opportunity to revise in future modules.

    Directions

To complete this assignment, first review the Project Resources Document and select a category (e.g., higher education, business and finance, innovative technologies). Skim the articles in that category and pick an article to read in depth. Then identify topics within that article that you might want to work with for this course. The information under each prompt will guide you through this process.

For this assignment, you will also write a research question and state the purpose of your research. Feel free to use the research question template in the Supporting Materials section as a starting place; however, if you want to craft your research question without the template, you are welcome to do so.

Specifically, you must address the following:

    1. Select a
**category** in the Project Resources Document.

    A. Review the categories in the Project Resources Document linked in the Supporting Materials section.

    B. After selecting a category that interests you, note in your submission your category choice.

    C. Then, review the articles related to your category.

    2. Select one of the
    **articles** listed under your category.

    A. Carefully read your chosen article.

    B. As you read, consider some possible topic ideas related to your article that are debatable and could be used for a persuasive essay.

    C. Cut and paste into your paper the corresponding citation in either MLA or APA format for the source you chose. You may choose if you would like to use MLA or APA documentation style this term. You will need to use the format you choose for this assignment for the duration of the course, including all assignments and the project.

    3. Identify a debatable
**topic** related to your chosen source. Consider the following in your response:

    A. State the specific topic that you identified within your chosen source. This will become your focus for your persuasive essay.

    B. State two perspectives on your topic and who would be interested in this topic.

    4. Write a
**research question** about your topic. These steps will help you write your research question:

    A. Review the templates and/or the exemplar to help you draft your research question. While you may choose to formulate your research question without using the templates, your research question needs to aim to solve a problem and lead to a complex discussion.

    B. Explain how your research question identifies a specific aspect of your issue.

    C. Explain how your research question aims to solve a problem.

    D. Identify the complex arguments and counterarguments that are potential answers to your research question. If you cannot find complex arguments and counterarguments, then you may need to reconsider your research question. If you are stuck, reach out to your instructor.

    B. As you read, consider some possible topic ideas related to your article that are debatable and could be used for a persuasive essay.

    C. Cut and paste into your paper the corresponding citation in either MLA or APA format for the source you chose. You may choose if you would like to use MLA or APA documentation style this term. You will need to use the format you choose for this assignment for the duration of the course, including all assignments and the project.

    discussion post 1:
One of the places I use statistics most often in my life is actually when playing board games. I'm quite into them, meeting with a group weekly and even attending board game conventions; and while it's certainly a pretty low stakes way to use statistics, it's also pretty rewarding when you push your luck a little after calculating the odds and succeed. Usually the probability that I'm trying to figure out is how large of a pool of successes do I have available versus how large the pool of possible failures is- whether that means that I need to roll specific sides of a die or I need to pull specific cards that hand, or figuring out what possible choices my opponents have with imperfect information.
My specific career doesn't do very much with statistics, as I'm a funeral director and embalmer and usually the goal is to have as few uncertain variables as possible, but I do make some broad non-scientific assumptions of probability like attendance numbers for a funeral based on historical data of people with similar backgrounds, and use that to determine how many staff members I might need.
    discussion post 2:
I would say that I used statistics in my life and career by trying to figure out ways to budget things in my plans like for instance food and fuel. In fact, people uses "entertainment costs to help prepare a person for the likely expenses they will have next month or the month after that" (Brioli et al., 2023). Then some examples of how I have used central tendency measures and probability in my life and career would be the way that I look at women versus men when it comes to trying to figure out what is the best route to go when buying things that is useful versus less useful. I would say for instance my father, he brings his bills to the table and his shredder. From that point on he sits down and write down what bills that are due and when is the next time for them to be due again to keep track of  how much money to spend and save in that month. So that he would be able to pay the bills. Also, he does this one day out of the month as well. Also, by watching him made me realize that I need to buy things I need instead of what I want. Lastly, I see myself using statistics in relation to my future career goals as trying to  to make sure that things are orangize and put in order.
