    Assignment Prompt & Instructions

    ## **Overview**

Kant's humanity formula states that all human beings have absolute value as persons and thus should be treated with respect and dignity as ends and never used merely as means. In other words, human beings should never be used as tools but should always be respected as absolutely valuable ends in themselves. For example, if you visit a grocery store, you should treat the cashier as an end, that is, as a person of worth who offers more than just serving as a means to your end of obtaining food. Do not treat the cashier as a tool for obtaining food. Rather, treat the person with respect and dignity. Smile and be polite. Perhaps, look for opportunities for meaningful conversation, et cetera.

While this concept is timeless, different generations may have different views on how this concept looks within the workplace. In addition, changing expectations related to gender influence this concept. For this assignment, imagine you are presenting to a group of human resource professionals at a conference. This group is interested in improving gender and generational conversations at the workplace, so they are interested in different opinions surrounding this topic. You want to take a philosophical approach to this topic, so you decide to use Kant's humanity formula as a guidance.

    ## **Instructions**

    ### **Part 1: Interview**

    For your interview:

    1. Select two individuals from different generations (Baby Boomer, Gen X, Gen Y (Millennial), and Gen Z (Centennial)).
    2. Conduct each interview using the questions provided on your [Interview Worksheet [DOC]](https://courseroom.capella.edu/courses/62772/files/12218665/download). Use a separate worksheet for each interviewee.
    3. Record their responses in the spaces provided.

    ### **Part 2: Presentation**

Once you have completed both of the interviews, create a 5–8-minute audio presentation in which you do the following:

    1. Explain how Kant's humanity formula influenced your understanding of the interview.
    2. Compare similar themes in the responses.
    3. Contrast noticeable differences in the responses.
    4. Explain how generational differences may have influenced the responses.
    5. Explain how changing expectations with gender influenced the responses.

You may choose the format of your presentation. Some suggestions are:

    – A 6–12-slide PowerPoint presentation (or another choice of presentation software) with audio. Refer to the PowerPoint section of the Tools and Resources page for PowerPoint tutorials.
    – A 5–8-minute presentation recorded using Kaltura, a program offered by Capella that records audio and video. Refer to the Audio and Video in this Course section of the Tools and Resources page for more information.
    – A 5–8-minute podcast.

Submit both interview worksheets and your presentation. Include a transcript of your presentation.

    ## **Presentation Requirements**

Your presentation should meet the following requirements:

    – **Length of recording**: 5–8 minutes.
    – **Length of slideshow (if using)**: 6–12 slides.
    – **Format**: The format you choose for your presentation must be one that your instructor can access for review and grading. Do not submit files from non-standard software programs. You can reference Capella's [Computer Requirements](https://campustools.capella.edu/redirect.aspx?linkid=1623) for more information about our standard software programs. Depending on the format you choose, upload or attach your presentation to the assignment area or provide a link in the submission box. Make sure to give your instructor access to the recording if necessary.

Refer to the Interview: Generational Differences Regarding Workplace Ethics rubric to ensure you meet all expectations for this assignment.

    Assignment Prompt & Instructions

In the 21st century, the health care workforce is made up of four different generations of workers, who now operate from many different cultural perspectives. As a health care manager, it is important for you to understand how to manage conflict within and among these groups. Another aspect is human capital talent management where you want each generation to reach their full potential in your organization, which may look different for each group. In this assessment, you will evaluate strategies to support the multigenerational health care workforce and help them work in a harmonious fashion.

**Imagine** that you are an HR manager in a health care organization of your choosing. The Wellstar Health System organization recently merged with another, layoffs occurred, and departments are now being consolidated. Your organization (Wellstar Health System) now has employees whose ages span four generations, in which three different cultural groups are represented. Conflict is brewing between them. The conflict affects performance, shift scheduling, and cooperation with other departments. Your HR director has tasked you with preparing a presentation addressing strategies to effectively manage a multigenerational workforce, especially as it relates to conflict in workstyles.

    #### **Assessment Deliverable**

**Create** a 12- to 15-slide presentation that includes a directive to address these conflicts and support your multigenerational workforce. You will be presenting this directive at the next quarterly management meeting. In your presentation:

    – Summarize the employment base with the 4 generations and 3 different cultural backgrounds.
    – Assess the situation that your organization is facing.
    – Describe the importance of human capital talent management skills for employee development within the different generations.
    – Create SMART goals to achieve cohesion, cooperation, and communication among the 4 generations of workers.
    – Strategize ways to support each generation within the same workforce. Consider using tables, matrices, or other visuals to convey this information.
    – Propose a strategy to overcome these conflicts and improve workplace performance.
    – Explain how success will be measured based on your strategy and goals.
    – Evaluate what leadership traits are needed to lead this organization.

**Add** speaker notes as if you were presenting in person (aim for about 50 words per slide).

**Cite** 3 reputable references to support your assessment (e.g., trade or industry publications, government or agency websites, scholarly works, or other sources of similar quality).

**Include** a slide with APA-formatted references.

**Job Portfolio: Staffing Planning and HR Forecasting**

    Student’s name

    Institution

    Course name

    Prof.

    Due date

**Job Portfolio: Staffing Planning and HR Forecasting**

    **Organization Background**

This portfolio is on Nike. Nike is a global leader in the sportswear, clothing and footwear industries. Its mission is "to bring inspiration and innovation to every athlete in the world", emphasising performance, innovation and accessibility. It seeks to create a leading growth company with innovation through technology and a competitive environment. Appropriate staffing practices mean the company can leverage this human resource to achieve a competitive edge (Herbert et al., 2012).

    **Selected Position**

The position selected for this portfolio is Marketing Analyst.  A marketing analyst is someone who interprets data and makes suggestions on how to modify marketing strategies. (Basu et al., 2023). They undertake market research to determine market trends, consumer behaviour, and to see how successful marketing campaigns are. Nike needs this role for the market fit of products and to stay relevant in various markets.

    **Staffing Planning and HR Forecasting**

Staffing planning is the process of determining the quantity of skills required to undertake an organisation's objectives. Human resource forecasting is forecasting of future staffing requirements (numbers and types), based on strategic business plans and external and internal labour market data (Herbert et al., 2012). They facilitate achieving desired staffing levels to fulfil their stated goals.

Nike's strategic objective to develop its online marketing plans and develop new product lines makes data analytics an increasing priority. Hence, they need more Marketing Analysts. Nike will use quantitative and qualitative methods. Quantitative techniques such as trend forecasting based on historical staffing levels and ratio analysis of staffing levels to business objectives, such as sales, marketing efficiency) are used.

Qualitative techniques are just as crucial. Managerial judgement can predict future staffing needs from their experience and expertise in the business. Scenario development involves considering various future scenarios (e.g. market growth, economic shifts) and staffing accordingly. Nike can project the staffing needs for Marketing Analysts and link them to business objectives from such techniques.

    **Staffing Strategy**

Staffing strategy relates to major decisions about likely acquisition, allocation and retention of talent to achieve organizationals goals. One important decision is whether to acquire or develop talent. Acquiring talent includes recruiting people with the required skills, while developing talent includes upskilling current employees (Menezes et al., 2025). Acquiring marketing analyst talent as opposed to developing talent is probably the best choice for Nike in order to meet the position's analytical and technical skill requirements.

The next aspect is whether employees are appointed from internal or external sources. Internal recruitment involves recruiting from within the organisation for promotions or transfers, while recruitment involves using talent sourced from outside the organisation (Alwi et al., 2022). Nike could use a combination of both strategies. The former will assist with employee development and morale, the latter with diversity, fresh ideas and innovation (Alwi et al., 2022).

Another consideration for Nike is whether the emphasis should be short-term or long-term when staffing. This position should use a long-term focus because Marketing Analysts need to be agile to changing technology, market, and consumer demands too. Moreover, the organisation may prioritise person – job match to ensure that there is a fit between employee skills and job demands. It may also consider a person-organisation match to ensure that the employee fits with the organization’s culture and values.

The other candidate, Raoul, works for a competitor and has valuable experience in the product market into which MDN wishes to expand. Do you think MDN has an obligation to promote Julie? Why or why not?

    Issue 2

Do organizations have an ethical obligation to have a succession plan in place? If no, why not? If so, what is the ethical obligation and to whom is it owed?

“Internal recruitment is the process of identifying and attracting current employees for open jobs” (Heneman et al., 2021). Internal recruitment is an important part of staffing because it allows organizations to fill positions with employees who already understand the company’s culture, expectations, and processes. Current employees usually already have relationships with coworkers and often require less training than outside hires. Heneman et al. explain that many organizations are focusing more on internal recruitment because it helps reduce hiring and training costs while also supporting long-term talent development.

A closed internal recruitment system is one in which employees are not informed about job openings. Instead, managers and human resources professionals identify qualified employees and contact them directly. One major advantage of a closed internal recruitment system is efficiency. Managers are already familiar with employees’ qualifications, work ethic, and performance, so positions can often be filled faster and with less administrative work. Closed systems can also support succession planning by enabling managers to focus on developing and promoting high-performing employees into leadership roles. This type of system may work especially well for specialized positions that require certain knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics, commonly referred to as KSAOs.

An open internal recruitment system is one in which employees are informed about job vacancies and given the opportunity to apply for available positions. One major advantage of an open system is fairness and transparency. Employees can see available opportunities and compare their qualifications to the requirements. The textbook explains that open systems help minimize favoritism and give employees a fair opportunity for advancement. Another advantage is that open recruitment can uncover hidden talent within the organization because more employees have the opportunity to apply. The textbook also notes that employees hired through open systems often perform better and are less likely to leave because managers spend more time carefully evaluating qualifications during the hiring process. Open recruitment can improve employee motivation and morale because workers may feel encouraged to continue developing their skills when they know advancement opportunities are available. Even though open systems may take more time and effort to manage, they can help organizations build trust and create a stronger sense of fairness among employees.

A hybrid internal recruitment system combines both open and closed recruitment methods. With this approach, job openings are posted for employees to apply for, while the human resources department also searches for employees they believe are strong candidates for the position. The textbook explains that organizations use hybrid systems to cast the widest possible net when seeking qualified applicants. One major advantage of a hybrid system is that it allows organizations to identify qualified candidates early while still giving employees a fair chance to apply for positions. It can also help uncover hidden talent and create a more thorough hiring process overall.

Overall, open, closed, and hybrid internal recruitment systems each provide valuable advantages for organizations. Closed systems offer efficiency and targeted talent identification, open systems encourage fairness and transparency, and hybrid systems combine the strengths of both approaches. Organizations must carefully evaluate their staffing goals, workplace culture, and available resources when deciding which recruitment system works best for them.

Recruitment plays a critical role in shaping an organization’s workforce, longterm performance, and employee satisfaction. One widely used approach within human resource management is internal recruitment, which focuses on filling vacancies using current employees rather than seeking candidates outside the organization. Internal recruitment can be implemented through different strategies, most commonly open internal recruitment and closed internal recruitment. Both approaches offer distinct advantages, and understanding their differences allows organizations to align recruitment practices with operational needs and employee development goals.

Internal recruitment is defined as the process of identifying and selecting qualified candidates from within the organization to fill open positions through promotions, transfers, or lateral moves "Internal recruitment is a cost-effective way to fill open roles with quality people who already know your company"(Paychex n.d).

Open internal recruitment refers to a recruitment strategy in which job vacancies are publicly posted and communicated to all eligible employees, often through internal job boards or formal posting systems . One of the most significant advantages of open internal recruitment is transparency. When employees are informed of available positions, they are more likely to view the organization as fair and equitable. This perception of fairness can increase trust in management and improve morale, even among employees who are not ultimately selected for the role.

Another advantage of open internal recruitment is its ability to uncover hidden talent. Employees who may not be highly visible to managers have the opportunity to apply and demonstrate their qualifications. This broader visibility helps organizations make better use of their internal labor market. Research has shown that open internal recruitment can positively influence employee motivation and engagement, as workers feel encouraged to pursue growth opportunities within the organization. Additionally, open recruitment supports employee retention by reinforcing the belief that longterm career advancement is possible without leaving the organization.

In contrast, closed internal recruitment occurs when job vacancies are not advertised to the entire workforce and candidates are identified through managerial recommendations, nominations, or succession planning processes. One key advantage of closed internal recruitment is efficiency. Because potential candidates are already identified, positions can be filled more quickly, which is especially valuable when roles are critical to daily operations or when time constraints exist.

Closed internal recruitment also reduces uncertainty in hiring decisions. Managers are familiar with candidate's performance history, work habits, and organizational fit, which lowers the risk of poor hiring outcomes compared to external recruitment. This approach is particularly useful for roles requiring specialized skills or confidentiality. Furthermore, closed recruitment supports structured succession planning by allowing organizations to intentionally develop and place highpotential employees into leadership or missioncritical roles.

Open internal recruitment emphasizes transparency, equity, and development, while closed internal recruitment prioritizes speed, control, and strategic placement. Many organizations benefit from using a combination of both strategies, applying open recruitment for developmental roles and closed recruitment for confidential or timesensitive positions. When applied thoughtfully, both approaches strengthen internal mobility and contribute to a more engaged and sustainable workforce.

    **_Unit I Global Strategic Management_**

**_In the ever-evolving landscape of global technology, few companies have achieved the level of influence and brand recognition as Apple Inc. Headquartered in Cupertino, California, Apple has grown from its 1976 beginnings as a small computer company into one of the world’s most valuable and innovative brands. Apple’s main products include the iPhone, iPad, Mac computers, Apple Watch, and a range of digital services such as the App Store and iCloud. The company operates in over 100 countries and is recognized for its ability to create a seamless experience for users across all its devices (Heracleous, 2013)._**

**_Apple’s global strategy is built on two key points. First, Apple maintains a high level of product and brand consistency worldwide. Whether you visit an Apple Store in the United States, Europe, or Asia, the look, feel, and customer experience are almost identical. This consistency helps Apple build a strong, trusted brand and makes it easier to market its products globally. Second, Apple’s supply chain management is a major part of its strategy. The company works closely with suppliers and manufacturers, mainly in Asia, to ensure products are made efficiently and with high quality. This allows Apple to launch new products simultaneously around the world and quickly respond to changes in demand (Heracleous, 2013)._**

**_Technology has dramatically changed how companies like Apple operate on a global scale. In the past, expanding internationally required building factories and offices in each new country. Today, digital platforms, cloud computing, and advanced logistics allow Apple to manage its business, update products, and support customers worldwide from a few central locations. Apple can also adapt its digital services, like the App Store, to meet local laws and customer preferences, making it more flexible and responsive._**

**_Apple’s strengths include a loyal customer base, a powerful brand, and an ecosystem that encourages customers to keep buying Apple products. However, Apple also faces weaknesses. It relies heavily on a small number of suppliers, which can create risks if there are disruptions. The company is sometimes criticized for high prices, limited repair options, and a closed system that makes it hard to use non-Apple products._**

**_Public perception of Apple is generally positive. Customers and reviewers often praise Apple’s design, innovation, and customer service, but some express frustration about pricing and product restrictions. News reports highlight Apple’s leadership in technology, but also cover issues like labor practices and antitrust investigations. In my experience, Apple stands out for its quality and ability to innovate, but it must continue to adapt to stay ahead in the competitive global market._**

    **_Conclusion_**

**_In summary, Apple Inc. exemplifies how a company can leverage global strategy and technology to achieve worldwide success. Its focus on brand consistency and supply chain excellence has helped it maintain a strong market position. While Apple enjoys many strengths, it must address its weaknesses and adapt to changing market conditions and public expectations. The company’s ongoing commitment to innovation and quality will be essential for sustaining its leadership in the global technology industry._**
