    #### **Social Climate and Behavior (Case Study)**
Behavior and social development are closely connected. Kaiser and Rasminsky argue, “Although you can’t see or touch it, the social climate is everywhere, affecting everything you do” (2016, p. 89). The social climate in your learning environment influences your students’ behavior because it is comprised of the attitudes and behaviors that are acceptable. In the case study this week, you will learn about how each of the children interact with their peers and some of the challenges the face as they work to find their place in their classroom’s social climate.
    To prepare for this discussion,
    – Refer to the Week 3 Instructor Guidance for tips and examples that will support your success on this discussion.
    – Read Chapter 7: Preventing Challenging Behavior: The Social Climate.
    – Read the article [Promoting Young Children’s Social and Emotional HealthLinks to an external site.](http://search.proquest.com/docview/2008816989/D47068DB62214166PQ/1?accountid=32521).
    – Read Part 3 of the [_ECD410 Behavioral Methods Case Studies_](https://uagc.instructure.com/courses/147361/files/23354579?verifier=mUXEVgnRmV2k9YEOA6AaPfmmiDhm95qCZ6NIGq73&wrap=1) [Download ECD410 Behavioral Methods Case Studies](https://uagc.instructure.com/courses/147361/files/23354579/download?verifier=mUXEVgnRmV2k9YEOA6AaPfmmiDhm95qCZ6NIGq73&download_frd=1) interactive. In your initial post,
    – List the names of the two children you will be focusing on as the first line of your post.
    – Explain, for the two children in the case studies, how the teacher can foster a caring community for each child.
    – Describe how you would help the children resolve their conflicts with their peers.

    **Building a Resume**

ASSIGNMENT: You’ve learned how a resume can help you achieve your career goals. Now it’s time to build your own. In this assignment, you will use the tools, templates, and examples to create your own professional resume that highlights your skills and experience for potential employers.

Use the template and sample below to assist in the creation of your resume.

    [Touchstone 2.1 Template](https://app.sophia.org/download/attachment/24443-Career%20Readiness%20Touchstone%202.1%20Template%20(1).docx) [Touchstone 2.1 Sample](https://app.sophia.org/download/attachment/21854-Career%20Readiness%20Touchstone%202.1%20Sample.docx)

In order to foster learning and growth, all work you submit must be newly written specifically for this course. Any plagiarized or recycled work will result in a Plagiarism Detected alert. Review
[Touchstones: Academic Integrity Guidelines](https://app.sophia.org/tutorials/touchstones-academic-integrity-guidelines) for more about plagiarism and the Plagiarism Detected alert. For guidance on the use of generative AI technology, review
[Ethical Standards and Appropriate Use of AI](https://app.sophia.org/tutorials/ethical-standards-and-appropriate-use-of-ai).

    **A. Directions**

    Step 1: Preparations
Before you create your resume, complete the following steps:

    a. Collect the personal information needed (such as dates of jobs, graduation, etc.) to complete your resume.

    b. Review the rubric to see the specifics for each grading criteria.

    c. Review the Sophia tutorials provided in the course for tips and guidelines:

    ·
    [Preparing a Resume](https://app.sophia.org/tutorials/preparing-a-resume-2)

    ·
    [A Targeted Resume](https://app.sophia.org/tutorials/a-targeted-resume-2)

    Step 2: Creation
Open the resume template and add your details. When creating your resume, pay attention to your formatting. Formatting is usually the first thing someone notices about a resume. Despite what you may have heard, having a colorful, elaborate resume is not required, nor is it preferable except for in a few unusual industries. All that extra design and color makes it difficult for an Applicant Tracking System (ATS) to read, meaning your resume could be thrown out without being considered. An effectively-formatted resume is concise and uses a consistent style throughout the entire document, which makes it easy to read. Clear presentation ensures that your most important information will stand at first glance.

Once you have created your resume, you can use Jobscan to scan your resume. After you upload your resume and a related job posting, Jobscan will analyze your resume and give you a score to help you see how well you’ve tailored your resume to the role.

    Step 3: Submission
Once you have reviewed your final resume, it is time to submit your touchstone.

Refer to the checklist below throughout the Touchstone process. Do not submit your Touchstone until it meets these guidelines.

    Visual Appeal
❒ Does your resume use an 11-12 point professional and legible font, such as Arial, Calibri, Times New Roman, Verdana, or Tahoma?
❒ Does your resume use consistent fonts and font sizes throughout (larger, uniform fonts for headers; smaller, uniform fonts for descriptions)?
❒ Do you consistently format text using bold, italics, or underlining for emphasis (e.g., bold job titles, underline key information)?
❒ Did you avoid the use of color or graphics? Traditional resume styles are preferred for most fields.
❒ Did you set up your page margins at 0.5 to 1 inch on all sides?
❒ Did you use single spacing throughout, with a blank line between each section of content?
❒ Did you use bullet points instead of paragraphs of text when describing your accomplishments in your experience sections?
❒ Did you utilize the touchstone template to create and customize your own resume?
❒ Did you use a format that is formatted for Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS)?
❒ Did you include your full name in the file name?

    Content
❒ Is your resume written in the first person?
❒ Are verbs in the correct tense?
❒ Is your contact information complete?
❒ Did you make sure that there is no inappropriate information?

    Experience Scope and Detail
❒ Did you list your experience in reverse chronological order?
❒ Does each listing have a title, organization name, and the scope of the role?
❒ Does each listing include dates of employment, such as 05/2020 – 06/2021 or May 2020 – June 2021?
❒ Does each listing have bullet points to detail specifics?
❒ Does each listing include positive content?
❒ Does each listing have consistent verb usage and correct punctuation?

    Summary/Objective
❒ If you chose to include a summary, is it 3-4 sentences? If you instead chose to include an objective, is it one concise sentence?
❒ Is your summary/objective present at the top of the resume?
❒ Does your summary/objective clearly state the target position, relevant skills, and benefits that you would bring to the position?

    Conventions
❒ Did you carefully proofread your document to ensure that it is error-free? Your resume is a chance to make a strong first impression, as it serves as a sample of your writing, and demonstrates your attention to detail.
❒ Is your document the correct length of 1 page?

    **Addressing Nursing Burnout and Retention**

    Marta Lilian Garcia

    December 8, 2024

    **Addressing Nursing Burnout and Retention**

My practice-focused question directly addresses a critical issue in healthcare: nursing burnout and its impact on retention. To refine my approach, I’ve considered the feedback from my peers and insights from the literature, which further solidify the importance of addressing this pervasive problem.

Burnout among nurses has been studied extensively, and research highlights the multifaceted causes, including high workloads, inadequate staffing, and poor managerial support (Garcia et al., 2019). By focusing on targeted interventions like mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) programs and improving nurse-to-patient ratios, I’m aligning my practice with evidence-based strategies that are proven to help mitigate burnout (Hall et al., 2022)

MBSR has been shown to reduce emotional exhaustion and build resilience in healthcare professionals. For instance, Ramachandran et al. (2023) emphasize how mindfulness interventions not only reduce burnout symptoms but also foster a more positive workplace culture. At the same time, improving nurse-to-patient ratios addresses excessive workloads, a major contributor to burnout. As Aiken et al. (2018) demonstrate, proper staffing significantly boosts nurse satisfaction, improves retention, and enhances patient safety.

    **Question**

**_How do mindfulness-based stress reduction programs and nurse-to-patient ratio improvements influence burnout reduction and retention among nurses in a hospital setting?_**

This revision is clear, actionable, and rooted in evidence, making it a strong foundation for impactful interventions.

**Addressing a Gap in Practice: Nursing Burnout and Retention**

    Marta Lilian Garcia

Foun Essen Doctor Nurs Practic, Walden University

    Evidence Based Practice

    Dr. Maria Revel

    December 8, 2024

**Addressing a Gap in Practice: Nursing Burnout and Retention**

Nursing burnout and its impact on staff retention is a well-documented challenge in healthcare. At my practicum site, this issue is exacerbated by high nurse-to-patient ratios, limited access to wellness resources, and inconsistent managerial follow-through on staff concerns. Burnout negatively affects not only nursing staff well-being but also patient care quality, safety, and organizational outcomes. Addressing this gap in practice presents an opportunity to enhance both staff satisfaction and patient outcomes (Garcia et al., 2019).

    **Gap in Practice**

The identified gap is the lack of sustainable strategies to address nurse burnout and improve retention rates. While the organization has introduced wellness programs and conducted staff satisfaction surveys, these initiatives are often reactive and lack a strategic, evidence-based approach. For instance, high patient-to-nurse ratios persist, and the outcomes of satisfaction surveys are rarely translated into actionable improvements. This lack of follow-through creates a cycle where nurses feel unsupported, leading to burnout and turnover (Ramachandran et al., 2023).

**Planned Activities to Address the Gap**

To address this gap, I will lead several targeted activities throughout the practicum:

    1.
**Stakeholder Engagement:** Collaborate with leadership and nursing staff to identify key drivers of burnout, leveraging existing survey data to establish priorities.

    2.
**Evidence Review and Proposal:** Conduct a literature review on effective interventions such as mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) programs and optimal nurse-to-patient ratios. Present a proposal to stakeholders outlining evidence-based solutions.

    3.
**Pilot Program Implementation:** Assist in designing and implementing a pilot program, such as MBSR workshops for nurses. This program will focus on enhancing resilience and stress management skills.

    4.
**Policy Recommendation:** Work with the preceptor to draft a policy recommendation for adjusting nurse-to-patient ratios based on national benchmarks and organizational needs.

    5.
**Evaluation and Feedback:** Develop a framework for evaluating the pilot program and any changes in practice, collecting feedback from participants and monitoring metrics like staff satisfaction and retention rates.

    **Conclusion**

This practicum offers a valuable opportunity to address a critical gap in practice by implementing and evaluating targeted interventions. The activities outlined will provide actionable solutions to reduce nursing burnout and improve retention, ultimately supporting both staff and patient outcomes.

**Data Collection and Analysis Plan for Addressing Nursing Burnout**

    Marta Lilian Garcia

Foun Essen Doctor Nurs Practic, Walden University

    Evidence Based Practice

    Dr. Jill Sanko

    April 22, 2025

**Data Collection and Analysis Plan for Addressing Nursing Burnout**

Conducting a successful and evidence-based Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) requires effective data collection and analysis. This project targets the implementation of a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) intervention and evaluates its feasibility and its impact on burnout and retention of hospital nurses. This document explains the structured data collection methodology, evaluates the functionality of the developed scorecard and elucidates the management of project dashboard.

    **Organized Data Collection**

The DNP project data collection tool was adapted to collect demographic and project-specific information for this project. Demographic variables (age, gender, years of nursing experience, and shift type) were collected anonymously to describe the sample population without identifying participants. Data specific to the project were collected using the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) questionnaire, a validated tool used to assess the three components of burnout: emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and personal accomplishment. A pre-and post-intervention survey was also completed to assess differences in stress levels, job satisfaction, and intent to stay. Institutional metrics such as absenteeism rates and nurse turnover retrieved from the human resources department complemented these data. This mixed methods approach allowed for collection of robust and context informed data that was in accordance with Johns Hopkins EBP guideline (Dang et al., 2021).

    **Plan for Data Analysis**

Descriptive and inferential statistics will be employed to analyze data. Descriptive statistics are used to describe demographic data; paired t-tests are performed to compare MBI scores before and after the intervention. Chi-square tests will be used to analyze absenteeism and turnover rates. Then, statistically and clinically important changes for burnout symptoms and nurse retention will be identified based on effects produced by statistical analyses.Thematic analysis will be used to extract repeating themes regarding the perceived stressors and the impact of the intervention over qualitative data from the interviews (Richard et al., 2020). This designed-for-both approach is consistent with the intent of capturing not only measurable/facts but behavior.

    **Scorecard Functionality**

Metrics included in the project score card were the pre- and post-MBI scores, absenteeism, staff turnover, and participant satisfaction. It works and hits the project SMART targets (e.g., < 20% reduction in burn out scores in 8months). Early evaluations show the scorecard’s responsiveness to changes over time and its usefulness for informing decisions. It to monitor performance continuously, facilitates accountability, and is a driver of alignment around organization-wide goals aimed at worker wellness (McHugh et al., 2021).

    **Dashboard Management**

A Microsoft Excel-based dashboard is used to organize and visualize weekly data updates. Charts represent MBI score trends, absenteeism, and turnover rates. Access is restricted to project stakeholders via a shared, secure hospital network folder. The dashboard is monitored weekly, enabling real-time feedback loops and timely adjustments. It is regularly reviewed in stakeholder meetings to ensure alignment with organizational priorities.

    **Conclusion**

The data collection and analysis plan is comprehensive and tailored to the organizational context and project goals. The scorecard is functional and appropriately measures project outcomes, while the dashboard ensures timely monitoring and stakeholder engagement. These tools support a structured, evidence-based approach to reducing nursing burnout and improving staff retention.

**Qualitative Research Approaches to Support Nursing Practice**

    Marta L Garcia

    Walden University

    Research Evidence Based Practice

    Professor: Dr.  Bob

    August 4, 2024

**Qualitative Research Approaches to Support Nursing Practice**

    **Question 1**

Nurse burnout is a significant concern in nursing, affecting healthcare workers and patients (Kelly et al., 2020). This work stress leads to nurse burnout, which is the physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion due to exposure to stressful work conditions and scenarios. This is specific to work hours, past patient-to-nurse, and the stress from caring for severely sick patients. Nurse burnout is a reality in the health sector and an issue that needs to be tackled. With job dissatisfaction, reduced performance, and a higher likelihood of turnover, burned-out nurses exacerbate staffing deficits and overwhelm other workers. It can also reduce the quality of care provided, increase the rates of medical mistakes, and endanger patient security. Nurse burnout is an issue that can be addressed to enhance nurse well-being, job satisfaction, and patient care in healthcare organizations. Focus groups can identify the psychological and structural factors that underlie burnout and provide recommendations specific to nurses’ requirements. Nurse burnout should be addressed to ensure the nursing workforce and the healthcare sector are healthy and productive.

    **Question 2**

Concerning the study on the problem of nurse burnout, the chosen quantitative research design approach is the focus group. For this particular problem, focus groups are appropriate because they enable the nurses to discuss their burnout experiences. This method entails sampling a group of people with some characteristics in common; in this case, the participants are nurses who have experienced burnout. Focus groups are tactical because the freedom of expression forces the participants to compare their feelings and concerns (Richard et al., 2020). Group arrangements allow participants to follow up on one another’s replies, enhancing their knowledge of burnout causes. This interaction demonstrates how micro-level, mesolevel, and macro-level forces influence each other in the healthcare setting. The moderator of the discussion guarantees that everyone contributes, making notes of different opinions and stories.

The specific method for conducting the focus groups would involve several key steps. First, the target population would be nurses who work in hospitals, clinics, and long-term care facilities to gain a diverse experience pool. This diversity is essential because burnout causes and symptoms depend on the particular environment. The focus groups would then be conducted comfortably to ensure the respondents provided relevant information. A semi-structured discussion guide in the form of open-ended questions would be used to obtain detailed comments on participants’ burnout experiences, causes, and occupational and personal consequences. The facilitator would also educate participants about coping with burnout and organizational change. All interviews and focused group discussions would be audio-taped and transcribed for analysis and would then be further coded to determine recurring patterns. This method helps gather descriptive data and makes individuals focus on and appreciate their difficulties. These focus groups would assist in developing targeted approaches to decrease nurse burnout and enhance well-being.

    **Question 3**

In light of this, focus group research design is particularly appropriate for studying nurse burnout because it encompasses collective and interpersonal aspects of the problem. Compared to interviews, focus groups enable nurses to share their concerns and feelings with other nurses. This group interaction often helps to reveal commonalities and patterns as the participants quickly identify with each other’s stories, discuss similar stressors, and think about possible coping strategies. For example, nurses might share concerns about insufficient staffing, the stress of attending to patients in critical conditions, or organization policies within the healthcare facility. Such discussions may reveal broader organizational patterns like organizational culture and leadership that perpetrate burnout that may not come to light in individual reports. For example, concerns may include the lack of resources allocated to patients’ mental health, the number of patients assigned to a nurse, or interactions with managers of hospitals or clinics. Focus group participants offer valuable information about the various facets of nursing burnout that can be useful in developing specific treatment programs and accompanying legislation. It enlightens the real-life experiences of nurses and enables them to frame endurable and practical change at the workplace, making it highly effective for the nursing practice.

    **Question 4**

A DNP-prepared nurse must know qualitative research paradigms as these approaches aid in creating a more profound comprehension of patient and staff expectations, experiences, and behaviors. One of the advantages of mastering qualitative research is that it addresses healthcare issues that involve emotions and culture, which are not captured by quantitative methodologies. DNP-prepared nurses may be better positioned to identify and handle psychological problems in healthcare delivery, develop patient-centered care models, and advocate for reform based on qualitative research outcomes (Graves et al., 2021). **Developing a Search Strategy to Address Nursing Burnout**

Nursing burnout is a critical issue affecting the healthcare system, leading to increased turnover rates, reduced job satisfaction, and compromised patient care. To address this problem, an effective search strategy is essential for gathering evidence-based research to inform practice changes. This paper outlines the search strategy to investigate nursing burnout, the rationale behind this approach, and the role of leadership in selecting and implementing this strategy.

Search Strategy To gather evidence, I will use databases such as PubMed, CINAHL, and PsycINFO. These databases are highly regarded for their comprehensive collections of peer-reviewed articles related to healthcare and psychology. The search terms will include keywords such as "nursing burnout," "workplace stress," "job satisfaction," "mental health interventions," and "resilience training." Boolean operators (AND, OR) will be utilized to narrow or broaden the search, and filters for peer-reviewed articles published within the last five years will ensure the most recent evidence is reviewed. Additionally, grey literature and organizational reports from credible institutions like the American Nurses Association (ANA) and World Health Organization (WHO) will be considered.

Rationale for Search Strategy This strategy is selected due to its ability to identify high-quality, peer-reviewed evidence while incorporating organizational insights. The focus on recent literature ensures relevance to current practices and challenges in nursing. For example, PubMed and CINAHL provide systematic reviews, randomized controlled trials, and qualitative studies that offer robust evidence for interventions addressing burnout (Jones et al., 2020).

Leadership Role in Decision-Making As a nurse leader, the ability to develop and implement a structured search strategy highlights strategic thinking and organizational skills. Using evidence-based practice models, such as the Johns Hopkins Nursing Evidence-Based Practice (JHNEBP) model, ensures systematic evaluation and integration of findings into practice (Dang et al., 2021). By modeling this process, I encourage a culture of inquiry and continuous improvement within the clinical setting. For example, leading a team discussion on findings fosters collaboration and empowers staff to engage in shared decision-making.

    Conclusion

An effective search strategy supports evidence-based interventions to address nursing burnout. By leveraging high-quality databases, Boolean operators, and filters, the approach ensures relevance and rigor. My leadership role in structuring this strategy promotes a culture of evidence-based practice, emphasizing the importance of ongoing learning and quality improvement.

This places them in a position to bring about evidence-based practice changes and improve nursing knowledge to make care compassionate and efficacious.

This places them in a position to bring about evidence-based practice changes and improve nursing knowledge to make care compassionate and efficacious.

**Developing a Search Strategy to Address Nursing Burnout**

    Marta Lilian Garcia

Foun Essen Doctor Nurs Practic, Walden University

    Evidence Based Practice

    Dr. Maria Revel

    December 29, 2024
