APPLYING EI TO CHANGE THE CULTURE OF PATIENT SAFETY
Changing a culture prone to medical error is one of the most difficult
obstacles to improving patient safety. In the traditional safety culture, blame
and judgment undermine reporting and systems improvement. A “fix-the-
problem-not-the-blame” approach is at least articulated if not
    operationalized in most healthcare organizations.

However, simply identifying risk management and quality improvement as a
no-blame system is not enough to change a culture deeply ingrained in
healthcare providers. The EIPS model may offer a way to change the
blame culture (see Figure 13.5). For example, in the story presented,
several clinical culture issues predisposed the unit to the error. Using
Reason’s model, the culture created holes that made the flow from error to
patient harm more likely, especially with the new employee orientation to
    the clinical unit.
    EI/Patient Safety (EIPS) Model.

In this model, good communication skills improve EI skills and
good EI skills improve communication. These two skill sets are in a positive
feedback loop. If communication skills are poor, EI abilities can improve
them. If communication is poor, safety is compromised, but as EI ability
improves communication, this negative influence is mitigated
    via EI abilities.

Using the EIPS Model, diagram a patient safety procedure on your unit
[in other words- YOUR CURRENT PLACE OF WORK] that has an
emotional or interpersonal “hole” in it.

Describe how one EI ability could be used to ameliorate that hole.

Submit the diagram of the problem from your place of work and the
paper: which must be minimally 2 pages with an introduction and a
conclusion. Please adhere to APA format to include headings within
your paper- ensure you label your diagram correctly.

    Review Reference count requirement.

Utilizes at least 3 sources and all sources are current within 5 years. Cited

    **ASSIGNMENT**
**You are going to enhance the prior assignment by doing the following:**
    – Create a function for each math operation (add, div, mult, sub).
    – The application will run forever (while True), you will ask the user to continue or not.
    – Create a function IsInRange() to test a number between two numbers like this.
Here is the spec in pseudo-code
    IsInRange(lr, hr, n)
    lr=low range
    hr=high range
    n=number
if n between ln and hr
        return true
    else
        return false
    >>> Show me how to use the function isInRange()
for example, we can check if the inputs are between -10 and 10 then do the calculations. else print "values are not in range" and loop back. use input() to get the ranges.
    **SAMPLE OUTPUT:**
Enter your First number —> 15
Enter your Second number —> 17
    The result of 15.0+17.0=32.0
    The result of 15.0-17.0=-2.0
    The result of 15.0*17.0=255.0
    The result of 15.0/17.0=0.882352941176
    Continue Looping Y/N Y
    Sample output using ranges.
Enter your Lower range —> 10
Enter your Higher range —> 50
    Enter your First number (10 – 50) —> 5     <<<  10 and 50 from input, do not hard code.
    Enter your Second number (10 – 50) —> 60
The input values are outside the input ranges
Please check the numbers and try again.
    **HINTS:**

    1. Review of Literature
    – Review and discuss literature: Synthesize at least 10 primary research studies and/or systematic reviews; do not include summary articles. This section is all about the scientific evidence rather than someone else’s opinion of the evidence. Do not use secondary sources; you need to get the article, read it, and make your own decision about quality and applicability to your question even if you did find out about the study in a review of the literature. This is a synthesis rather than a study by study review. Address the similarities, differences, and controversies in the body of evidence.
    2. Analyze and apply knowledge directly to your PICOT- The studies that you cite in this section must relate directly to your PICOT question.
    3. Provide precise body of evidence for your Practice Change
    4. Discuss objectives for your practice change
    5. Discuss where the problem exists, why it exists, what is the preposition for change
    6. Apply all that is relevant to the problem. For example: Pros vs Cons, current state of problem
NOTE: _It should not reflect your opinion,_ but rather Evidence Based Practice should be applied
-After completing a literature search on interventions addressing your chosen health problem, write a review that evaluates the strengths and weaknesses of all the sources you have found.
-Use appropriate APA 7th Ed. format along with Syllabus outline
-Scholarly, peer-reviewed, and research articles cited should be within the last five years.
-This section should be 4 pages long (not including the title and reference page).
-Use proper in-text citations with a properly formatted reference list.
-All papers must be written in the 3rd person.
PLEASE ADD -How will you identify the depressed patients without comprising health records? What would you do if a resident presents with depressive symptoms? Keep in mind that the APNs will not be able to treat. In the Review of Literature, you will have to expand on cost of care, what does the data show? How much?

    **## WEEK9DISCUSSION3.ETHICALCONSIDERATIONSINI.OPSYCHOLOGY.docx**

Week 9 Discussion. 3 Ethical Considerations in I/O Psychology

Consider the following ethical dilemma: The CEO asks you to assess the job satisfaction of employees. Therefore, you send employees an electronic survey, with a statement confirming that individual results will be kept confidential. Upon reviewing the results, you see that several female employees have provided qualitative comments about sexual harassment they endured at the hands of the CEO. What would you do? Would you break confidentiality and inform the Director of Human Resources? Would you confront the CEO directly? Or would you do nothing to maintain confidentiality?

In this Discussion, you consider ethical dilemmas related to I/O psychology and apply ethical standards and guidelines to resolve the dilemmas.

    To Prepare:

    · Read Chapter 2 in
_The SAGE Handbook_ and view the media resource, “Ethical Decision-Making.” Review the ethical dilemmas and relevant ethical standards and guidelines that apply.

    · Read the
    _Ethical Principles of Psychologists_ and
_Code of Conduct_. Consider ethical standards that apply to the practice of I/O psychology.

    · Identify an ethical dilemma that an I/O psychology practitioner might encounter and the ethical standards that you would apply to address the dilemma.

    **## WEEK9ASSIGNMENT.LEGALCONSIDERATIONSINI.OPSYCHOLOGY.docx**

Week 9 assignment. Legal Considerations in I/O Psychology

In 2017, a pregnant Walmart employee who worked as a packer at a distribution center was struggling with morning sickness and asked for a break from some of her duties. Her supervisor responded that she would need a doctor’s note. Consequently, the woman obtained a note from her doctor that said she was to avoid heavy lifting and gave it to her supervisor. In turn, her supervisor referred her to Human Resources. A Human Resources employee informed her that she could not return to work until after she gave birth because she was a “liability,” and that she would have to apply for unpaid leave to keep her job. Did Walmart discriminate against this employee?

In the United States, there are many anti-discrimination laws; yet, as the Walmart example shows, discrimination continues to be a problem in the workplace. For this Assignment, you will examine the role of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) in enforcing anti-discrimination laws. You will also consider what steps you would take to ensure equity in the workplace as an I/O psychology practitioner.

    To Prepare:

    · Read Chapter 3 in the Aamodt text,
_Industrial/Organizational Psychology: An Applied Approach_, and “Title VII” of
_The Civil Rights Act of 1964_.

    · Identify unlawful employment practices and anti-discrimination laws.

    · Consider the role of the EEOC in addressing unlawful employment practices.

    · Think about the best practices you would apply as an I/O psychology practitioner to prevent discrimination and ensure equity in the workplace.

**INSTRUCTIONS:** Submit a 2–3-page paper that addresses the following questions. Your paper should follow APA style, be double-spaced with one-inch margins, and include a title page and reference list.

    · Describe the role of the EEOC in the practice of I/O psychology and three different laws that are enforced by the EEOC.

    · Describe two different types of discrimination prohibited by the laws enforced by EEOC and at least three best practices you would suggest for ensuring equity in the workplace.

    · Suppose you find yourself in an elevator with the CEO of a Fortune 500 company that you admire greatly. You strike up a casual conversation that suddenly turns to the topic of discrimination in the workplace, and you quickly realize that the CEO has no understanding of I/O psychology or I/O psychologists’ roles in addressing these concerns. One day you hope to begin your I/O career at this company or one similar to it. Therefore, you decide to give a quick elevator speech on I/O psychology and its role in best practices to address discrimination and inequity in the workplace. What would you say?

    **Complementary and Alternative Medicine**
Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) has gained increasing popularity among patients managing chronic illnesses such as cancer, diabetes, and hypertension. CAM involves many treatments that fall outside the domain of traditional Western medicine, such as herbal therapies, acupuncture, yoga, meditation, homeopathy, and even dietary supplements. Some use CAM to help control their symptoms, counter the side effects of conventional care, or simply because they feel more in control of their health process. Some CAM treatments have been promising, but there is considerable variability in their safety and effectiveness due to the condition being treated and the particular intervention selected. It is crucial to comprehend the potential advantages as well as the risks of CAM when helping patients make a choice of integrating such practice into their treatment.
For cancer patients, CAM is often used alongside traditional treatments like chemotherapy and radiation. Acupuncture, meditation, and other related practices have been established to help alleviate nausea, pain, and nervousness, promoting a better quality of life overall (Nielsen et al., 2022). Nevertheless, there are several alternative forms of treatment, specifically unregulated herbal supplements, that may conflict with chemotherapy drugs, even reducing their efficacy levels or causing harmful interactions. Thus, though some CAM practices can be effective in treating symptoms, they have to be well planned so as not to have adverse effects in terms of interaction with conventional care. The safety of the patients must always remain the priority, and communication with the patients and the care providers must always be open.
Dietary supplements like cinnamon, chromium, or bitter melon, yoga, and stress reduction methods are commonly used in the management of diabetes as complementary therapies. The practices have the potential to enhance emotional well-being or aid with glycemic control (McBenedict et al., 2024). However, it may be dangerous to only consider CAM to control the levels of blood glucose in case it causes partial disobedience in assuming the prescribed insulin or oral drugs. Many of the supplements remain under question as their effectiveness and some may even trigger hypoglycemia or liver damage in case they are taken incorrectly. The beneficial effects of CAM are realized when used alongside allopathic treatment of diabetes, as opposed to fixing it in place.
Hypertension is another condition where CAM interventions are often explored. Practices such as mindfulness meditation, tai chi, and dietary changes have shown potential to lower blood pressure naturally. These interventions promote relaxation and improve cardiovascular health, supporting conventional pharmacological treatments. However, abandoning prescribed antihypertensives in favor of alternative remedies alone can lead to serious complications. The effectiveness of CAM in hypertension management depends on its integration with lifestyle modifications and evidence-based medical treatments (Ojangba et al., 2023).
I view holistic and allopathic care as complementary rather than contradictory. Holistic care emphasizes treating the whole person, mind, body, and spirit, which can enrich the patient experience and support healing beyond physical symptoms. Allopathic care, grounded in scientific research and clinical trials, remains essential for managing acute symptoms and life-threatening conditions (Mortada, 2024). When blended thoughtfully, these approaches can offer comprehensive and patient-centered care.
If a patient chooses CAM, I would respect their autonomy and support them by ensuring their choices are safe and well-informed. My concern would arise only if the patient declined proven treatments in favor of unproven or harmful alternatives. In such cases, I would prioritize education and advocate for evidence-based decision-making while honoring the patient's values and preferences.
